Definition
• Pluralistic: different races, nationalities, religions or groups participate and keep on developing their culture in the society
• Recognises and allows its citizens to have cultural plurality (have their own culture)
• Have mutual tolerance+ respect+ accommodate different voices(promote development)
• Fully express its opinions and valued by the society
• Coexist peacefully(respect each other)

→ not Melting pot:
○ Destroy the development space of ethnic minorities
○ The society wouldn't improve
→ Traditional Chinese idea of 'diversity and harmony' / 'seeking common ground while reserving difference'
2. Popular culture
• Full of international (the east and the west, other Asian and Southeast Asian ) flavour in entertainment and fashion
- 1970s : westernization (e.g.teenagers: checked shirts and flared jeans, listen to English songs)
- 1990s: Japan ( TV drama, dance music and sushi)
- Taiwan (idol )and Korea (TV plots): hip-hop and dancing

• Films from around the world are released in Hong Kong
4. Food culture
• 'Gourmet paradise' : cuisines from different countries
• Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Thai and Indian ('Paradise of food')
