QUESTION No. 1 [6 marks]

a. How ICT can enhance the education process and teaching methodologies? Discuss

three recent technologies that help to enhance the mentioned process.

ICT can enhance the education process and teaching methods in many ways.
Some of the recent technologies that helped to do so are,
1. Lms ( Learning management system) where teachers can upload the
assignments, lecture notes and quizzes easily and the students can access
these resources whenever required.
2. Web conferencing softwares like zoom cloud meetings, teachers can conduct
online classes easily.
3. Digital whiteboard technology also helped teachers in giving online lectures.
4. Students can use digital library technology to access thousands of books and
study material easily.
5. Teachers can make assignments, lectures and quizzes easily through the use
of softwares like Microsoft and students can also make the assignments more
efficiently using these applications and technologies.
6. Students can easily get help from many blogs and websites related to studies.

b. How can you compare traditional classroom lectures and online lectures?
Discuss pros and cons of both.

Pros of traditional classroom lectures


1. Improves communication skills and critical thinking.
2. Engagement with class fellows in different classroom activities and group
assignments.
3. Discussion with teachers at the moment to clear doubts.
Cons of traditional classroom lectures
1. Requires more time and effort.
2. Lectures can get boring sometimes.
3. Shy students have difficulty in asking questions.
Pros of online classroom lectures
1. Affordable and convenient.
2. Saves time as you don't need to travel.
3. Saves money.
4. Lecture notes can be accessed easily whenever required.
Cons of online classroom lectures
1. Requires a better understanding of technology.
2. Lack of interaction.
3. Requires self-discipline

b. How can ICT play a vital role in E-Commerce?

Through the use of technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds transfer,
supply chain management, internet marketing, online transaction processing,

inventory management system and automated data collections ICT can play a vital
role in e-commerce.

Question no.2 [4 marks]

The latest coronavirus pandemic has caused everything to shut down and has forced us to
change the way of living. It changes the way we connect with each other, the way we
study, office work, business and the way we shop.

a) Suggest how traditional shopping can replace with online shopping. What points
would you consider?

Traditional shopping can be replace with online shopping by considering the


following points:
1. It's more convenient as one doesn't have to leave the comfort of their home.
2. Online shopping also saves time which would be required to go to a shop.
3. It saves money as we don't have to travel.
4. We can compare prices easily on different websites.
5. We can view as many products as we want to see which we can't in a shop.
6. Traditional shops have a certain time limit that they can be open till. But
through websites we can shop online whenever we want.
b) Suggest some new technology/software’s that can be developed /used in order to
do office work, shop ,business online

Some new technologies that can be used in order to do office work,


Teleconferencing or audio and video conferencing ,electronic whiteboard or smart
board and records management.
Technologies for online shopping could be: Digital marketing, virtual reality and
cloud services.
And the technologies that can be developed for doing business online could be artificial
intelligence, internet of things (IoT) and blockchain etc.

A supermarket uses a barcode scanner to read the barcodes of its products.

a) How can the barcode help the supermarket manage its stock? Explain.

With the help of barcode, supermarkets can easily manage their in stock and out
stock. They can easily generate invoices at the time of checking out of the customer.
Retailers can also track sales to allocate inventory and shelf space and promotions can be
made run across multiple locations in the country.

● Suppose the supermarket has a management system to manage its daily


services.

b) Write down some of its modules which must be present in the management
software?
● Administrative module, it is handled by an admin who has full control
over the system. Admin is needed to log in with a unique id and password.
● Employee module, can be used by an employee by a user id. They can track
items in the market and are responsible for recording details of purchase and sale.
● Purchase module, shows all the purchase details of the supermarket.
● Sales module, is used to record all the sale details of a supermarket.
● Billing module, is used to track all the payment details based on sales
and purchases.

c) Apart from a barcode scanner, which input/output devices should also be included
to run the supermarket smoothly?

Apart from a barcode scanner these input/output devices should also be included to
run the supermarket smoothly,
Key board, key pad, scale, chip and pin device, monitor, display for the customer and a
receipt reader.

QUESTION No. 4 [2 marks]

A factory uses a computer system to store information about customers, spare parts and
general administration.

a) Spare parts can be identified by selecting from diagrams on a computer screen.

Describe what hardware would be needed to allow the parts to be selected this
way?

A laser 3D scanner would be needed to allow the parts to be selected this way.
With the help of a laser 3D scanner they can scan the spare parts and then later
identify it into diagrams which can be then displayed on the computer screen.
A laser scanner digitally captures the shape of any object using laser light.

b) The factory needs to buy a new printer. It has been decided to buy a dot matrix
printer, inkjet printer or laser printer. Printers are used to print bills, drawings of
spare parts, salary receipts. Which printer is best suited in mentioned scenarios
and why?

The factory should buy an inkjet printer because it sprays microscopic droplets of ink
into paper and inkjet printers are generally cheaper , smaller and can be used to print both
text documents and high quality coloured images. Also inkjet printers print high resolution
images.

QUESTION No. 5 [4 marks]

A worker at a company logins into the system and a menu appears on her screen. This
system is connected to the internet.

1. Describe two ways her computer needs to be protected against the loss or hack of
the system due to internet connection.

1. She can use firewall and antivirus software to protect her computer from the
loss or hack of the system.
2. And she should also set a password in her computer before connecting to the
internet.

2. The worker has left the computer for a 10 minutes break. From a health
perspective, why does she need to take a break? As a lot of people sit in the same
room as her, describe the measures that she can take to protect her files while she
is gone for her break?

She needed to take a break because of eye strain and cerebral pain.
She can instantly lock the computer by using WINDOWS+L to protect her files while
