Designing smart antennas for wireless cellular communication using MIMO technology.

We know that conventional

cellular antenna, which broadcast energy over the entire cell, but adaptive antennas are antenna arrays that confine the
broadcastn energy to a narrow beam. Wireless cellular communication is continuing to grow unabated. In many areas of
the world, the demand for cellular communication is so great that operators are tempted to push the capacity of their
networks beyond levels that current technology can handle. As wireless data applications over cellular networks become
more widespread, the pressure to increase capacity will become even more intense. An adaptive antenna design that
increases system capacity requires that the conventional base-station antenna be replaced by one or more adaptive antenna
arrays. Instead of flooding the cell with radiated information from a single source, adaptive antennas fill the cell with
several narrow signal beams (typically four or eight). An immediate consequence of this new approach is that a different
downlink strategy must be applied; that is, more complex information must be used for transmission from the base station
to the mobile terminals in the cell. This is because the system needs to know which beam direction reaches which mobile
terminals; and • how it can get system information to every mobile terminal simultaneously. Two main downlink strategies
meet these requirements. The first calls for a beam to be directed toward the mobile terminal; the second requires a beam
to be selected from a set of fixed beams. In either case, the downlink beam relies on estimating the direction of arrival
(DOA) of the uplink from the mobile terminal. The algorithms that determine the most suitable beam or beam path for
downlink are thus vital elements of the adaptive antenna solution.

I had more interest in science fair since my primary school level but there was no opportunity to
participate there. Then after completing my primary level and when I was studying at secondary school level I got the
opportunity and almost every year I was participated at inter-school science fair and contest where different schools from
different locations came up with their innovative projects that are inspired and motivated me to get involve with such
works more. From that moment, I made my vision to involve research and scientific works in my future life My name is
Bablu Chakma. I was born in a small city named Rangamati in the Chittagong division on June 01, 1996, as the second
child of my family. Recently I have completed my bachelor's in science (BSc) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
from Eastern University. I had a dream to go abroad for a higher study for a Master’s degree since the beginning of my
undergraduate study. Finally, It is a great pleasure to me that I found information about such prestigious scholarship
opportunities from Bangladeshi Students Community in Turkey.

There are several reasons for choosing Turkey as my first priority but among them, one of my best reason is Turkey has a
lot of world ranking university and maximum universities have good research opportunity and they get a lot of funding for
research. Furthermore, universities have diverse cultures because every year enormous international students enroll in
several universities in Turkey from different countries. In my undergraduate study, I focused on the field of Digital
Communication Systems. As I have an interest in this field where I have obtained an excellent grade through all the
courses including my final thesis which was on the theme of “Enhancing Cellular Network Capacity With Adaptive
Antennas”. The main research area of this project was creating a single beam toward the targeted cell only by using
adaptive antennas with the help of Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation, where the conventional antenna broadcast
energy over the entire location. From this thesis, I gained knowledge about designing, implementation of beam-forming
algorithm, calculation of direction of arrival estimation and noise cancellation I am really confident that the strong faculty,
rich academic environment, and sophisticated research facilities will provide me extensive research training in order to
accomplish my goal of becoming a research scientist.

Cellular Network Capacity By Using Adaptive Antennas.

This research method basically both theoretical and experimental based research. The experimental task can be done by
the latest version MATLAB software or other similar software
iv) Boosting capacity-interference reduction means tighter frequency reuse and an increase in the transceiver
v)Saving frequency spectrum means the traffic served by fewer frequencies.
vi) Interference Reduction layer

ii) Drection of Arrival Estimation using MSIC algorithm
iii) Adaptive beamforming using LMS algorithm

viii) Simulation and performance evaluation

ix) Conclusion

This research will help me to exploit my theoretical knowledge that I have gained from my academic study and my
xperimental knowledge help me to become a good researcher in my academic field.

Wireless Communication Technologies have great progress in recent years and the markets, especially the cellular obile
phone, have been growing hugely. Moreover, the next-generation communication services will use a higher requency band
area and require more channel capacity and wider bandwidth for high-speed data communication. s a large increase in
channel capacity and high transmission rates for wireless communications, the technologies or the power saving and
efficient frequency usability are required. One of the technologies that can contribute to he mprovement of wireless
systems is the adaptive/smart antenna. A smart antenna can form a beam pattern in n intended direction by applying a
digital signal processing algorithm with the digitized data from each antenna lement. By software algorithm, this system at
the transmitter is capable of steering the maximum radiation pattern oward the desired mobile and the system at the
receiver can spatially separate and reject multi-path fading energy hence higher bit rate services can be provided.

According to my previous undergraduate research experience, I believe that I will able to being capable
to involve with further studies on these fields. Mostly I have interested to do research in the field
of “Information and Wireless Communication System” or “Renewable Energy”. As I had cherished
desire since my childhood to do research professional level that’s why I have a plan to pursue
a PhD degree after Master’s program.
