Faqi- an Islami Jurist. What exactly is knowledge in islam? How do you take tafseer from Quran? What is Hadith? How are multiple positions derived in islam? How is the scholarly and non-scholarly divide? Alamat of qiyamat: riba, zina, alcohol, and music. negative type of ilm will be comman There are two approaches to understand islam. Knowledge approach, ideology approach. knowledge approaches to islam: o Read first, position later. (you read first, then you figure out your position later). Start with quran and hadith, then support their position. o They’ll stress the use of ilm with aqal. Become a person of ilm or follow someone who has Ilm. o It says that other scholarly positions maybe valid. They’re open to possibilities that others’ position could be valid. o Says that don’t disagree with something before you have understood it. o Says that don’t leave hadith, tafseer, Islamic law, spirituality unless you don’t understand it. o It’s a long road which needs time and effort. Ideological approach to islam: (Literalist ideology and Reformist Ideology) o Position first, read later. (Opinion first, then quran hadith. See anything then, that’ll then support their position.). they’ll start with position first. o Use aqal without ilm. *State Bank of Pakistan wali example* o Human aqal is deficient. That’s why we need revelance (wahii). o No. only I am correct, and everyone else s wrong. Here only one position can be valid, and that is mine. o don’t agree with something before you have understood it. They will cut you off from tafseer, hadith, spirituality, and everything because you don’t have the aqal to understand to do so. o They gradually give you their own ideoalogy that’ll eventually match your aqal. o Ideological approach is easy and short. What happens when a knowledge person meets a ideology person: there’s a fallout. o If you want to seek ilm, go ask the fuqaha, instead of ideologists. What happens when an ideology person meets a knowledge person: o First, they will give their own version, deliberately, of their knowledge position to you. And create a straw man argument. o They will engage in sweeping generalizations that are completely unsubstantiate. Like don’t believe in this hadith bcz it doesn’t follow teachings of quran. If I say that I don’t believe in this hadiths bcz it doesn’t resonate with understanding of quran. Whereas the actual truth is that hadith doesn’t mean what they want it to mean. o If nothing works out for them, they will discredit you, defame you. They’ll say that youre being emotional or intolerant.
