Neutral colors are any color that doesn't have strong chro-
matic content. Neutral colors are divided into two types: pure
Neutrals, which are black, white, and gray, and near neutrals,
which are colors that have been mixed with a pure neutral or
by mixing two complementary colors.
 SELECT NEUTRAL TONES LIKE A PRO
checklist
1. Identify what type of neutral
color you want.
- -A pure neutral tone (Achromatic)
such as white, gray or black.
- A near neutral (color with low chro-
matic content) such as tan, beige,
cream, peachy, blueish gray, etc.
3. Once you know the undertone,
find out if that color is a cool or
warm tone to combine them
harmoniously using the color wheel
and color theory. Evaluate if it is a
tone that highlights your decoration,
the other colors of the space, and
the space's style.
5. Test the paint color in the
space where you will use it before
buying it. This way, you can visual-
ize how the light and the other
colors and elements of the space
affect our perception. Remember
that colors don’t exist without light!
2. If you are going to choose a
near-neutral, remember to identify its
undertone.
- Undertones are the secret code of every
near-neutral color; it is the subtle influ-
ence of one color under the mass tone.
A convenient technique for identifying
the undertone of light neutrals is to place
a paint chip on a white piece of paper.
The undertone will reve(i)al itself when
the paint chip is compared to the pure
white of the regular paper sheet.
4. Identify the color temperature of
your lighting sources.
- Warm Temperature: 3000k has a
yellowish tone. Use it to highlight Warm
colors.
- Neutral/Natural Temperature: 4000k.
Use it to preserve your surfaces' real
tone. Perfect to be used in Tte general
lighting layer of space.
- Cool Temperature: 6000k has a
bluish tone. Not recommended for
home spaces.
