Frist Question:
a) Design a concrete mix required for beams that will be mildly exposed to freezing and thawing.
The cross section of the beams is 250*400 mm with a bottom reinforcement 3Φ12 and stirrups
5Φ8/m. The specified compressive strength of concrete at 28 days is 35 MPa with a slump of 80
to 100 mm. The properties of materials are as follows:
- Cement used is type I Portland cement with a specific gravity of 3.15.
- The available coarse aggregate has a maximum size of 25 mm, a dry-rodded unit weight of 1700 kg/m3,
a bulk specific gravity (SSD) of 2.67, absorption capacity of 0.6%, and moisture content (OD) of 0.25%.
- The fine aggregate has a bulk specific gravity (SSD) of 2.65, absorption capacity of 1.5%, a moisture
content (SSD) of 3%, and a fineness modulus of 2.70. The aggregates conform to the ASTM C33-84
requirements for grading.

b) Design a concrete mix for use in an underground concrete structure that is exposed extreme to
freezing and thawing and sulfate salts attack if it meets the following requirements:
- The specified compressive strength of concrete at 28 days is = 30 MPa
- Cement used is type I Portland cement with a specific gravity of =3.15
- The amount of slump = 2:8 cm
- Characteristics of coarse aggregate: (maximum aggregate size = 25 mm, dry weight by hand ramming
= 1680 kg / m3, density Total Relative = 2.7, Absorption Ratio 0.5%, Moisture Content = 3%.
- Characteristics of fine aggregates: (Total relative density = 2.65, absorption percentage = 1%, fineness
modulus (FM) = (2.80), Moisture content = 7%).

c) Design a concrete mix required for a column that will be moderately exposed to freezing and
thawing. The cross-section of the column is 350*600 mm. The smallest spacing between
reinforcing steel isb30 mm. The specified compressive strength of concrete at 28bdays is 45 MPa
with a slump of 80 to 100 mm. The properties of materials are as follows:
- Cement used is type I Portland cement with a specific gravity of 3.15.
- The available coarse aggregate has a maximum size of 20 mm, a dry-rodded unit weight of 1650 kg/m3,
a bulk specific gravity (SSD) of 2.65, absorption capacity of 0.5%, and moisture content (OD) of 0.25%.

- The fine aggregate has a bulk specific gravity (SSD) of 2.66, absorption capacity of 1.4%, a moisture
content (SSD) of 2%, and a fineness modulus of 2.60. The aggregates conform to the ASTM C33-84
requirements for grading.

Second Question:
a) Design a concrete mix so that the fresh concrete has a plastic Consistency so that the
concrete becomes resistant to pressure after 28 days 240 kg / cm2. Knowing that the
aggregate used mixture passes 40% of the standard sieve 3/16, knowing that:
- Specific weight of cement = 15.3
- Specific weight of aggregate (sand or gravel) = 2.67.
- Volumetric weight of aggregate (sand or gravel) = 1650 gm/cm3.

b) Calculate, by weight and volume, the mixing proportions of a cubic meter of fiber concrete
needed for the floor construction of a large factory, if it is known that the amount of fibers
(size 60 / 0.5 mm) is 40 kg / m3. The proportion of cement is 8 bags per cubic meter of
concrete. The number of ASTM plasticizers (specific weight 1.16) has been increased by 1.5
of cement weight to increase workability and to reduce mixing water, which was proposed
to be 0.37 by weight of cement. Knowing that the specific weight of cement, sand, gravel,
and fibers is 1.3, 2.65, 2.7, 7.85, respectively. And the volumetric weight of sand and gravel
is 1.6 and 1.65 tons / m3, respectively.
c) It is required is to design a concrete mix so that the fresh concrete is of plastic Consistency
so that the concrete is the hardened resistance to pressure after 28 days is 350 kg/cm2. the
percentage of fine to coarse aggregate is 1:2, the air ratio is 2%.
- Specific weight of cement = 3.15
- Specific weight of aggregate (sand or gravel) = 2.66
- Volumetric weight of aggregate (sand or gravel) = 1700 gm/cm3.
- silica fume is 10%, Specific weight of cement = 2.15
- W/P is 0.33.
- superplasticizers are 2%.

My sincere best wishes to all
