Final Year Project (FYP) Guideline

Dear Students,
We congratulate and appreciate you on your interest in working on your FYPs. There a few
simple but important steps that you have to follow to get going with your FYP.
The steps are:
1. Getting Official Email Access:
i. Every student must contact USA IT team or visit Resource Centre to have their university
official email id (if not already taken) that is in the format b-00000@student.usa.edu.pk
2. Student Registration
i. Required criteria for registration is that CGPA should not be less than 2.0 and the
applicant student should have cleared 6 semesters.
Students who have cleared 7, 8 and those who are enrolled in more semesters and still
have not registered MUST POSITIVELY get registered without any further delays.
ii. Unregistered students with their admission in 2014 session, are now time-barred, they
will not be allowed to register even if they fill the online registration form. They will now
have to contact the office of students’ affairs for their next step.
iii. Right now, people enrolled in 2015, 2016, and 2017 sessions are eligible to apply for
registration provided that they fulfill the CGPA and number of semesters, criteria
mentioned above. Students whose admission session is of 2018 are not allowed to
register now, however they will be eligible to register after May 2021.
iv. Students will submit online Registration Form using the link ** given below, but first
they must be signed in USA email account before using the given link.
v. One registration form is valid for one student only.
vi. Applicant student must send their registration form once only.
In case of any mistake, they will have to seek permission by email to cs.fyp@usa.edu.pk.
vii. Remember all the processes and steps related to FYP; such as registration, proposals
and presentations are offered free of charge or without any fee. In case of any
confusions, queries or reports please do contact us at the email ID given above.
viii. Once the registration is done, the student will receive a confirmation email within next
seven working days.

3. FYP Group
i. After individually getting registered for their FYP work, students can form their FYP
groups, by mutual consultation on campus or by placing requests or suggestions in the
Facebook FYP group.
ii. Try to form groups from your class-fellows or students of your own session. However
students can also form groups from one session senior or one session junior mates.
iii. The important point to remember is that each FYP group will be allowed a maximum
completion duration that applies to the senior session members in that group.
iv. The department has fixed the FYP group size to be exactly three members for all the
groups formed in the year 2020.
4. Getting an Advisor and FYP Idea Approval
i. Student will submit online request form for allocation of an FYP Advisor using this
link: https://forms.gle/XvR5eU5Rx3xD841D8
ii. One group member can submit one form only. In case of any mistake, they will have
to seek permission by email (to cs.fyp@usa.edu.pk) for resubmission of form.
iii. Once the request is processed, all group members will receive a confirmation email
with their advisor’s contact information.
iv. Advisor allocation will be done by focal team subject to group’s preferences and
advisor’s current workload.
v. In order to get approval for FYP idea, student will be asked to submit a summary of
intended project in the above google form.
vi. Project summary should include project title, brief description of project idea, list of
features of the product and deliverables and tools/technologies). Project summary
should not exceed two pages. Students are encouraged to opt for fresh and unique
ideas for their FYPs. For their guidance, a list of completed and on-going projects is
being shared.
vii. Application can be rejected for one or more reasons. All the possible reasons of
rejection have been mentioned in online form, so students are advised to follow all
instructions carefully to avoid unnecessary delays. In case of rejection, reason(s) of
rejection will be notified via email. The student will have to submit his revised
request form.
5. Refinement of FYP Proposal
i. FYP group will remain in contact with their advisor to refine their pre-proposal until
approved by advisor.
ii. Pre-proposal refinement period should not exceed 3 weeks from date of project
allocation to the advisor.
6. FYP Proposal Presentation
i. Once pre-proposal is refined and approved by advisor. FYP group will request their
advisor to arrange their FYP proposal’s presentation within two weeks.
ii. A unique FYP ID shall be assigned to the successful group. The group must request for
this ID from their adviser or the projects convener.
7. Regular Meetup / Liaison with Adviser and Monthly Progress Report
i. FYP group will ensure regular meetings with their advisor. A monthly FYP progress
report must be submitted by each FYP group showing their tasks
completed/deliverables submitted to the advisor.
8. Completion of Work & Final Presentation
i. Once an advisor is convinced that all required work is completed by the FYP students'
group, advisor will conduct a demo presentation on their own.
ii. FYP group will request their advisor for final presentation and project evaluation.
iii. The advisor will share the project documentation with panel members for evaluations
and remarks and arrange final presentation of group.
iv. After necessary revisions, FYP group will submit their project deliverables (document &
S/w CD/DVD) to their advisor as soon as possible.
v. Templates for proposal documents as well as final documentation are available inside
the FILES folder of the Facebook FYP group. Students must follow the prescribed format
and other requirements directed by their advisers.
Keep visiting the Facebook group, to find updated status of these templates.
vi. Students are advised and encouraged to select best and unique topics for their FYPs.
The CS department discourages ordinary, less interesting and recurring ideas as FYP
topics.
vii. A list of completed and on-going FYPs has also been published in the Facebook FYPs
group for the hint and guidance of the students. It is regularly updated after each
semester. Once again students are encouraged and invited to frequently visit the
Facebook group to catch up with the latest updated list of completed or ongoing FYPs.
