In the Forest

I was in the forest that day.

I certainly wished I had not gone that way
For I was frightened by the screeching in the sky,
The hissing on the ground
And the buzzing all around.

Then just when I thought that all was fine,

There was an end to all that sunshine.
A boom I heard overhead,
A terribly loud fluttering noise
And then a growling that ended all my joys.

Whoosh! Crack! Swish!

Oh, I wished I had not been so foolish.
And then a pop –
I turned to see
That my elder brother had been following me!

For once I wasn’t angry

That his catapult had hurt me badly.
Squealing and yelping, I held his hand
As we escaped from the horrible marshland.
