The two-year residential interdisciplinary Masters in

Public Policy programme was introduced in the

National Law School with an emphasis on the law as
an interface between the formulation of public policy,
and inclusive, sustainable development. The
programme responds to the new challenges of justice,
inequity, exclusion and progress faced by India in the
21st century.
The course focuses on the transformative aspects of
policy making in India and the world. It selects and
trains a diverse group of young graduates in the tools
and techniques of public policy making, imbued with
Constitutional values of plurality, diversity and liberty.
The selection criteria and the academic curriculum
remain as robust and rigorous at par with the NLSIU
standards. The course consists of multidisciplinary
and interdisciplinary courses in economics, law,
sociology and political science; skill-based learning
and the Client-Led Project programme to facilitate
core industry experiential learning.
It gives me immense pleasure and pride to present
our eighth cohort of MPP and I invite industry leaders
to connect, engage with our students by participating
in the Client Led Project and forge a long lasting
relationship with the University.

NLSIU was the first National Law

University established in India in 1986.
The premier law school was set up with
a mission to pioneer legal education
reforms, and to anchor the
transformation of the Indian legal
system through research and policy
interventions.

Consequently, the NLSIU was one of the

first institutions in the country to
introduce the five-year integrated law
degree at the undergraduate level with
the commencement of the first batch in
1988.

And for over 30 years now,

the Universit has irrefutably
remained a leader in the
field of legal education in
the country. This long-
standing record has been
possible due to the strong
collaborations between legal
academics, the Bar, the
Bench and the State
Government of Karnataka.

WORK EXPERIENCE
CLIENT LED PROJECT

Policy analysis is an advice provided to a client to solve

public problems. Therefore, working with organisations
that are regularly engaged in policy, governance or
legislative work is an important part of pedagogy.

After the second trimester as a part of the curriculum,

students are expected to work with organisations to
assist them in important projects. This first hand
exposure to policy projects provide them with an
opportunity to apply tools to real world policy settings.

The duration of this component ranges from 4 weeks to

6 weeks, commencing February 2021.
