"Macbeth" is one of William’s Shakespeare’s famous plays that resembles the

slaying, ambition, the power of black magic, and the wit Lady Macbeth. At this time,

when Shakespeare wrote this play it was in the Elizabethan era, which was known black

magic was considered verboten. People were afraid to die, and as a result for whoever

caught practicing black magic was being burned alive tied to a pole. However, Macbeth

is a Scottish general who has desired King Duncan’s position. Furthermore, the play

shows the evil face of Macbeth, the protagonist, and how murderous he became, but this

evilness was not made by him, under every merciless act lies the malicious Lady

Macbeth and the three witches.

Firstly, Macbeth was considered a hero in Scotland, as he was between citizens and royal

families as “Thane of Cawdor”, Cawdor is a place in Scotland that went against the kind

and were killed by Macbeth, moreover, Macbeth was loyal to his friend, king Duncan,

this is shown when Macbeth cited “First, I am his kinsman and his subject, Strong both

against the deed;” (1,7,13), which resembles that he and his family are grateful to king

Duncan and shows him respect. However, Macbeth never gave a chance to anyone or just

an idea to conquest king Duncan’s monarch, not until Lady Macbeth and the Three

Witches started to cultivate these toxic thoughts of becoming the future king and creating

an imaginary kingdom in Macbeth’s mind. Subsequently, Lady Macbeth started

provoking him by saying “When you durst to do it, then you were a man,” (1,7), clearly

after a period of time convincing Macbeth and using his ambitions to kill King Duncan,

he buried his own grave, not only this but when the witches just saw Macbeth and his

friend Banquo, they kept saying “Hail Thane of Glamis and of Cawdor and shalt be King

hereafter”(1,3,50) as they attempting to brainwash him as he’s going be the future King

of Scotland, as what he was told by them it’s his destiny that he has to fulfill. "By Sinel's

death I know I am Thane of Glamis, But how of Cawdor? The Thane of Cawdor lives,

(75) A prosperous gentleman; and to be King Stands not within the prospect of belief, no

more than to be Cawdor" (1,3.74-78)., this scene shows that the witches had a successful

attempt to exploiting Macbeth to kill King Duncan. However, as Banquo listens to the

malignant witches’ sayings, he tries to forewarn Macbeth as he slightly notices that

Macbeth may believe their words, that, trusted home,” Might yet enkindle you unto the

crown, besides the thane of Cawdor. However ’tis strange. And oftentimes, to win us to

our harm, the instruments of darkness tell us truths, Win us with honest trifles, to betrays

In deepest consequence.” (1,3,125). Not only this, but the witches made him believe that

no one on this earth that his mom gave birth to will be able to beat him or win over him,

which made Macbeth feel invincible, in addition to this, Lady Macbeth uses the help of

the witches as she conjuring the spirits and calls darkness to cover her up, “Come, you

spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here and fill me from the crown to the toe

top-full of direst cruelty”. (1,5,30) “Come thick night, thick night, And pall thee in the

most dun smoke of hell That my keen knife sees not the wound it makes, nor heaven peep

through the blanket of the dark” (1,5,40). As a result, all hard work the witches and Lady

Macbeth did, Macbeth did it and killed King Duncan after Macbeth made all his guards

drunk.

On the other hand, other opinions say that Macbeth is not a tragic hero or a victim but a

villain. Although Lady Macbeth and the three witches are responsible for Duncan,

Banquo, and Bancou’s children's death, Macbeth has this evil thing deep in his heart, he

somehow, yearned for the king’s position. When he told the witches, “Stay, you

imperfect speakers, tell me more.” (1,3,71) when the witches told him he’s going to be a

king, However, karma took place in this play, Lady Macbeth ended her own life as a

result of hallucinations and fell into the darkness that she’s calling to the whole play, and

Macbeth was killed by Macduff after Macduff discovers all Macbeth’s merciless deeds

and murders.

In conclusion, this Shakespearean play, tells a story of the victim Macbeth that was once

considered a hero in Scotland, bad was brought down by three witches and Lady

Macbeth. However, it is to be considered at that time, which was in the Elizabethan era,

practicing black magic was trading, and it was sentenced to death who ever used it.

Moreover, in the play, it was shown the ambition of Macbeth but this ambition to take the

king’s Duncan position got over him, it ended up making him a murderous and merciless

person, and of course, this was the result of the witches and Lady Macbeth’s greed and

the usage of black magic.
