5. Process
The identification of environmental aspects and the evaluation of associated environmental impacts is a process can be
deal with in the following steps.

5.1 Identification of activities, products & services

5.1.1 Identification of environmental aspects should be performed by departmental heads, in consultation
with their team members, for each individual process/facility with defined parameters and shall
include the environmental aspects of goods and services and equipment used by the facility.
5.1.2 Every process involve input (e.g., materials, waste, energy) a value-added transformation, and outputs
(e.g. finished product, consumption or reuse of materials, waste, emissions, discharge, noise, light), is
to be completed during the environmental aspect of indication process by supervisor using Inventory
of tasks form (refer to Risk Assessment procedure).
5.1.3 The following are to be considered for the identification of the activities, products & services:
➢ Normal conditions
➢ Abnormal Conditions
➢ Emergency Conditions
➢ Any planned modifications to the existing facilities
➢ New projects

5.2 Identification of the environmental aspects of each activity, products and service

5.2.1 The environmental aspects for each of the identified activity, product and service shall be identified by
identifying:
➢ All inputs into the process/activity (raw material, fuel, etc.)
➢ All outputs from the process/activity (products, release to the land, release to the water, wastes..
etc)
5.2.2 The environmental aspects identification approach shall consider:
➢ Emissions to the air (NOx, Sox, CO2)
➢ Release/Spills to the land/land contamination (oil, chemicals…)
➢ Release/Spills to the water (chemicals, fuels, other hazardous substances…)
➢ Consumption/Use of raw material, energy and natural resources (electricity, water…)
➢ Waste (solid and liquid, hazardous & non-hazardous)
➢ Noise, Light
➢ Other local environmental and/or community concern/issue

The identification process includes situation arising out of normal, abnormal & emergency situations and this shall be
recorded in the Environmental Aspects/ impacts register.

5.3 Identification of the environmental impacts

5.3.1 The environmental impact(s) associated with each aspect will be identified, these could be:
➢ Pollution of the air, Pollution/contamination of the water, Contamination of the land
➢ Depletion of resources, Nuisance (Odor, noise…)

5.4 Evaluate significance of impacts

An Environmental Aspect shall be considered to be significant if it is rated equal or greater than “4” by using the
following rating matrix:
