Constitution of the United States

1. A) Popular Sovereignty - ‘‘We the people” This is an example of popular sovereignty in


the preamble because it is a reference that the power of the state and government are
created and sustained by the permission of the people.

B) Limited Government – “We the People of the United States…..do ordain and
establish this Constitution for the United States of America." The part where it says the
people of the US establish a constitution for the nation is a reference of limited
government. Establishing a constitution implies that the government must rule the
nation based on the constitution laws, so the government would only create and
enforce laws that follow the principles in the constitution.

C)Social Contract- “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect
Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense,
promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our
Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
The whole preamble itself is an example of social contract, since because it states an
agreement formed by the people with the government by stating what the
government’s duties are in order to establish a prosper nation.

D) Natural Rights of Man – “secure the Blessings of Liberty” Freedom or liberty is one of
the natural rights that every person is born with, according to John Locke. The fact that
liberty is mentioned in the preamble is clearly a reference that the one of the
government duties is to ensure that every person in the US has the privilege of having
the natural rights of man.

2. The relationship between the People and the US Government, according to the
Constitution, is that it must be balanced in order to be considered a democracy. In
“balance”, I mean that there shouldn’t an excess of government authority over the
people, neither an excess of personal freedom with little to none government authority.
Government is allowed to create and enforce laws that may dictate a little bit how the
people in the US is supposed to live life, but for the good and that is to ensure a safe and
prosper future to the nation. However, there must also be personal freedom to the
point that people in the US are capable of finding happiness and peacefulness in the
nation.
