1. Type of Film:
-Comedy and Drama
2. What interesting facts or ideas does the movie bring to mind? How did the film
made you feel?
The film was very catchy and it is always seen in several family situations. You can
actually feel the true meaning and feeling of the Filipino Family Spirit that is
embedded in our blood as Filipino and also the movie portrays how a family always
sticks as a family no matter what.
The interesting thing about the movie is how one family member who has passed
on is still in the living one’s heart. In the scene where Manuel Bonifacio visiting the
grave of his beloved, how he would tell her stories of their family even though she’s
not there physically listening.
Never losing faith in family. In the scene where Dexter Bonifacio, the youngest, was
allegedly been in trouble because of being the victim of the scamming of an event he
was promoting as a Dj, he actually searched in his friends the warmth of having a
family and where those persons were the only ones he knew could help him. But the
moment his family knew his problems, they were actually the real ones who can help
him.
Love can be unconditional. As I had mentioned, Manuel’s wife, Marie has already
passed on, the love for his beloved never changed not only to his wife but to his
children A, B, C, and D. But even when they were too busy to spend time with him,
he never faltered in showing his unconditional love for them.
Death can bring people closer. When everyone was busy with their own lives,
Manuel, their father was the only one left living in the house they all lived as they
grew. As an oldie, he would often think his life is short and there the diagnosis of him
having cancer came which later made way to the reunion of his children like how he
had his visions on.
You don't have to be the same to get along and love each other. The Bonifacio
siblings (played by Aga Muhlach, Dingdong Dantes, Cristine Reyes, and Enrique Gil)
had personalities different as night and day. Even though it brought those conflicts
and misunderstandings at the beginning, they eventually learned that through their
love for their father they were all similar in a big way as well. In the end, they learned
that it's not about background, career, or money that truly matters but how you chose
to live and value your family. It’s actually true that death then bring people closer.
3. What does the film show about people and their values?
The film shows people on how a family is a family. How one family can fix each
problem of each member with the help of everyone to shape their bond of
relationship within the family. The values which shows how a Filipino family would
act, the camaraderie, the kindness, the helpfulness, and the unconditional love to one
another. It also showcases the position of each family is, of how caring and hard
working the first born are, how the second would always compete their greatness
with the first born, the criticality of being the only girl in the family, how you are
treated as a princess, and the last born as someone inexperienced, often are referred
as immature, stupid due to lack of knowledge and black sheep of the family.
4. Who are the films main characters? Why do they behave the way they do? What are
the problems they face and the choices they made and its consequences?
Ronaldo Valdez as Capt. Manuel Bonifacio
-Capt. Manuel is the main character of the movie, the father of the A, B, C, D
children. He was a loving father who loves his children unconditionally and is
always there to help them when they need him. As a father figure and after his wife
died, he stood not only as a father but also a mother to his children as it is in his
obligations to protect and make them feel the love they deserve to feel. But despite a
happy family, when his children started to grow, he was left behind alone. He was no
longer remembered by his children which then a news came to him about his
sickness of having cancer. But not for long the diagnosis was wrong. And he had to
keep it a secret otherwise he wouldn’t be able to see his complete family again. But
hiding it was wrong which had led to a major fight within siblings and also his
children then left him again because of it.
5. How are happiness, love, identity and family values addressed in the film?
-Happiness. Happiness is addressed in the movie as a complete family is a happy family.
The moments together they bring memories of happiness to each member of the family
and happiness is the result of a good balanced relationship type of family.
Love. Unconditional love was the main focus in the story. No matter how much you
fight, how much you hate each other, how far they are to you, and even if they are no
longer with us, the love is still there as long as you feel it that it’s there, it is in there.
Identity. Identity played one major role in the story. It placed the characters in another
level where there is someone higher and someone lower. But finding out the real you and
not just basing on what you see, identity will be nothing. It’ll just be the image you see
and not what you actually feel.
Family Values. The family that sticks together grows together. The Family is the main
unit for social life. What you learn in your family is what you’ll be as one person of this
family. A family doesn’t ruin each other, rather they help one another to fix the things
that need fixing, to mend those rivalries and heartaches, to be as one along the way.
