Pre – Poetry Reading Activities
-Picture Prompts
The teacher displays a collection of images that are closely connected
to the poem’s concept and subject . For insatnce , the images below will help
pupils grasp the concept of the human life cycle .
This motivating strategy aims to get pupils to respond in a meaningful
way . The amount of illustrations is determined by the poem’s intricacy and the
pupils’ ability to comprehend poetry . For kids with inferior comprehension
skills , more visuals are required .
1) The visual stimulu are shown or posted in the classroom by the
teacher .

2) The students analyze and interpret the photographs in pairs . With his
or her impressions and ideas regarding them .
3) After a minute , the instructor asks three to four dyads to share their
thoughts and opinions regarding the photographs with the rest of the
class .
4) The instructor synthesizes the students’ opinions and informs the
class that their comments have a direct influence on the poem’s topic
and subject .

While – Reading Activities

- Suggestopedia Reading Aloud

Suggestopedia is a teaching method created by bulgarian psychiatrist

Georgi Lozanov and used mostly in foreign language instruction . According
to Lozanov , kids are most responsive when they feel at ease and acalm in
their surroundings . As a result , art and music are used .

Suggestopedia reading an aloud exercise is a reading session in which

you and your pupis read each line or text out , paying attention to proper
emphasis and rhythm and using an evocative background music that
corresponds to the poem’s topic .

For example , I felt 100 years by Five for Fighting to be an appropriate

music for The Seven Ages of Man

1) In first reading – out , the instructor reads each poetry phrase aloud to
the pupils , who then repeat after him
2) In the second reading - aloud , each couple takes turns reciting a stanza
o two ( depending on the structure and length of the poem ) until the
last stanza .

Extensive reading while recording music in the background will

undoubtedly elicit the desired emotions and improve pupils’
comprehension of the text’s general subject .
 Post Poetry Activities

- Inquire with the students about other elements in the world that could bring
happiness besides flowers .
- Recapitulates lesson
