This course module will introduce you on the theoretical, historical, legal, and
sociological foundations that form the basis for the Special and Inclusive education.
Discussed also here in the module the lessons about the child development theories and
learners with additional needs. Thus, this module will be of great help to you especially you
are now on the stage of practicing your future career.

At the completion of this module, you are able to:

 Identify laws, policies, models, theories, and philosophies that form the basis for
special education practice.
 Distinguish the typical and atypical development and characteristics of learners with
exceptionalities.
 Design a learning plan in the context of learners with special education needs.
 Appreciate uniqueness and diversity among all learners most especially students with
additional needs, difficulties and disabilities.

Objectives :

 Identify the different Models of Disability;
 Discuss and differentiate Special needs education and inclusive education;
 Identify the following laws directly involved in the pursuit of inclusive
education;
 Create an infographic showcasing the differences among the different models of
disability and laws on inclusive education.

Introduction

Welcome to Chapter 2! In this chapter, you will have a better understanding


and knowledge of what is Special Needs Education and Inclusive Education. As you
explore the module you will realize how these two concepts differ in addressing
diversity. Discussed also here the different models of disability and the laws involved
in the pursuit of inclusive education. These concepts are very important to be learned
by the teacher education students so you will become an effective teacher in an
inclusive type of classroom.
