 PRS software integrity check
This function ensures the correctness and integrity of the PRS software when it is
installed on the live network. This function ensures the integrity of the PRS software
when it is installed on the live network. The software integrity check tool is delivered
with each PRS software version to verify the digital signature. Before installing the PRS
or starting the PRS during an upgrade, a user must run the software integrity check tool
to verify the digital signature of the software version. The PRS can be installed or loaded
only after verification. If verification fails, the PRS software is invalid or lacks integrity.
 PRS client installation on a website and automatic upgrade
The PRS client can be installed locally on a PC or remotely on a website.
To install the PRS locally on a PC, obtain the client installation package from the
installation CD-ROM or download it from Huawei Support website.
To install or upgrade the PRS client remotely, instead of using the installation CD-ROM,
log in to the PRS server remotely using a Web browser. This reduces installation costs
and improves installation efficiency.
The PRS client can be automatically upgraded. When the PRS client is connected to the
PRS server, the PRS client displays a message if its version is inconsistent with the PRS
server version. After users confirm the automatic upgrade, the PRS client is
automatically upgraded to the version that is consistent with the PRS server. This
solution improves the client upgrade efficiency and reduces operation and maintenance
(O&M) efficiency. Cross-R-version upgrade is not supported. To perform a
cross-R-version upgrade, users must reinstall the PRS client.
 Workstation management
Workstation management is used for managing shortcuts to functions or applications.
Users can create shortcuts to functions and executable applications to simplify operations
and thereby increase convenience. Names, descriptions, and icons of shortcuts can all be
defined. Users can create, modify, delete, import, and export the workstation. The default

the alarm management window of the M2000. This function is disabled by default in
the installation of the PRS.
 User session monitoring
The status of all online users on the PRS can be monitored in real time. The monitoring
window displays the user name, operating client, client type, login time, user group, and
detailed information. User Administrator can force a specified user to quit.
 License management
The license controls the management capability of the PRS system. License information
consists of resource control items and function control items. Resource control items
control the application scope of specific functions by controlling the dimensioning of the
network managed by the PRS. Function control items control the use of functions by
using the switches of the corresponding functions. License information enables users to
know the resources and functions under the control of their license. If the license will
expire in less than one month, the PRS periodically displays a message, indicating that
the license will expire soon.
In addition to license information, license management provides functions such as
license remote update, license export, license expiration code query, and license
invalidating.
− License remote update allows users to upload a new license file to the PRS. The PRS
then automatically enables or disables functions, updates the license capacity, and
updates the validity period as specified in the new license file.
− Users can export the PRS license information to a CSV or XLS file and save the
exported file to the PRS client.
− License expiration code query enables users to query historical license expiration
code information, including expired license serial numbers, license expiration codes,
and expiration time.
− Users can invalidate a license on the PRS client, which generates an expiration code.
Huawei technical support personnel can apply for a license based on the expiration
code in case of capacity adjustment, supplementary sales, and version upgrade.

Availability
This feature is available in iManager PRS V100R006 and later versions.

Summary
The advanced telecommunications application environment (ATAE) cluster solution is an
integrated OSS solution developed on Huawei ATAE platform.
The ATAE cluster solution has the following characteristics:
 Highly professional
 Highly integrated
 Carrier-class reliability
 High performance
The PRS can be deployed on the ATAE platform independently. The ATAE cluster solution
implements the following functions in a centralized manner:
 Large-scale network management
 Monitoring and maintaining hardware
 Accommodating multiple OSS products such as the M2000 and the PRS
These features of the ATAE cluster solution help telecom operators to minimize energy
consumption, save equipment room space, reduce overall deployment costs, and remain
competitive.

Benefits
The ATAE cluster solution has the following benefits:
 An ATAE subrack contains 14 blades, where 12 blades function as servers and 2 blades
function as switch blades. Compared with traditional servers that provide equivalent
management capability, the ATAE cluster solution reduces energy consumption by over
60%, saves 50% of equipment room space, and reduces the number of cables needed for
connecting servers.
 The ATAE cluster solution helps improve operation and maintenance (O&M) efficiency
and minimize O&M costs because it can manage large-scale networks in a centralized
manner. For example, a single ATAE subrack can accommodate an M2000 and a PRS at
the same time.
 The ATAE cluster solution provides carrier-class reliability and ensures that services run
smoothly all the time. The key function modules in an ATAE subrack, such as subrack

and controllers use the redundancy design. The ATAE cluster solution uses the N:1
redundancy scheme, which improves hardware usage and reduces hardware costs.
 ATAE blades support plug-and-play, which enables users to replace blades without
re-loading software. In this way, services can be quickly restored when a fault occurs.
 The ATAE cluster solution provides the OSS self-maintenance unit (OSMU), which
implement the following functions in a centralized manner: maintenance of service
blades, device status management, task management, and data backup. This helps
telecom operators improve O&M efficiency.

Description
 Hardware configuration
An ATAE subrack consists of 14 blades, which can accommodate the M2000 and the PRS
concurrently. Users can perform operations on the M2000 and the PRS blades separately. This
enables centralized management of the two products. The following table describes the

 Carrier-class reliability
− N:1 redundancy: The blades in an ATAE subrack are classified into service blades and
database blades. The service blades implement different functions by loading
corresponding service software. One OSS product can be configured with multiple
service blades, and the blades are grouped into a cluster that uses N:1 redundancy.
That is, each OSS product corresponds to a service cluster to implement N:1
redundancy. Only few services run on the database blades of each OSS product, and
the architectures of database blades are similar. Therefore, these blades share one
standby blade, and the entire ATAE cluster system becomes a system that uses N:1
redundancy.
− Hardware redundancy: The key function modules in an ATAE subrack use the
redundancy design. When an active module is faulty, services are immediately
switched over to the standby module. The active-standby mode is 1:1 hot backup.
− The power supply units of the ATAE subrack use 2:2 redundancy and support four
–48 V power supply inputs.
− The management units of the ATAE subrack use 1:1 redundancy.
− The switch units of the ATAE subrack use 1:1 redundancy.
− The fans of the ATAE subrack use 1:1 redundancy.
− The service bus of the ATAE subrack uses dual-star redundancy.
− The service plane and the management plane are deployed on different blades. In
this manner, impact on services is minimized.
− The storage system uses RAID 1+0 technology to protect data.
− The controllers in the storage system use 1:1 redundancy.

− The power supply units in the storage system use 1:1 redundancy.
 Blade plug-and-play
In the ATAE cluster solution, the OSMU is configured with hard disks and other blades
use the SAN Boot technology. With this technology, users can start the operating system
from disk arrays. Once a blade is faulty, the boot volume is mapped onto a new blade
that replaces the faulty one. This helps quickly rectify faults.
 OSMU
Running on an independent blade, the OSMU provides centralized maintenance and the
following functions:
− Managing service blades in the subrack
− Changing IP addresses in batches
− Changing time in batches
− Changing routes in batches
− Changing user passwords in batches
− Powering devices on and off in batches
The OSMU provides a device panel for users to view device status in real time before
operating a device. When an exception occurs, an alarm is automatically generated and
then the alarm information is reported to the M2000 for centralized hardware alarm
monitoring.
The OSMU provides the function of managing tasks in a centralized manner. This
function enables users to view running tasks in real time to check which tasks are
running on the OSMU before performing an important task.
The OSMU provides a built-in centralized backup function. The data on each service
blade is backed up to backup media by using the OSMU in a centralized manner. The
OSMU uses disk arrays for backup, which increase backup speed and efficiency and
minimize backup costs.

Enhancement
The following function is added to iManager PRS V100R008:
Supports independent deployment on the ATAE platform.

Dependency
The ATAE cluster solution of the current version does not support the following:
 Veritas system backup and restore solution
OS hardening

1.1.4 WOFD-097800 OS Hardening

Feature Description 1 PRS Basic Package

 Disabling insecure operating system services

 Restricting access to files and directories
 Securing user accounts and passwords
 Adjusting operating system kernel parameters
After this feature is enabled, the PRS displays a security warning message (banner) when
users perform activities related to system security, such as logging in to the PRS through
Telnet, FTP, or SSH. In addition, this feature provides system logs related to Inetd, FTP, cron
tasks, and daemon process for users to trace and audit operations performed on the operating
system.
Security hardening of a SUSE Linux operating system is performed by users using a
hardening tool. The security hardening tool conducts OS hardening based on the security
hardening policies preset in the PRS. Some hardening policies must be applied manually in
certain networking scenarios. For example, users must manually disable the remote login of
user root.

Benefits
 The following measures provided by this feature protect the operating system against
external attacks and enhance the security of the PRS system:
− System program hardening
− Log tracing and auditing
− Kernel parameter adjustment
− User account and password security hardening
− System access, authentication, and authorization

 Kernel parameter adjustment

Kernel parameters determine the network configuration status and rights for applications.
Kernel parameter adjustment enhances the security of operating systems by adjusting or
configuring network options, disabling information dumping, and enabling protocol
stack protection.
 User account and password security hardening
Securing user accounts and passwords is useful for protecting operating systems against
malicious attacks.
User account and password security policies for the SUSE Linux operating system
include restricting the use of the su command, disabling system user accounts, using the
hash algorithm to encrypt passwords, and forcing users to use complex passwords.
 System access, authentication, and authorization
This function enhances the security of operating systems by enabling users to set the
scope of user operations and the execution environment of key services.
The policies used for the SUSE Linux operating system include restarting the system by
using the keyboard, setting the timeout of idle sessions, setting the secure single-user
mode, setting telnet warning banners, and restricting the number of login attempts.
 File and directory access control
All applications and data in the SUSE Linux operating systems are stored as files. A
directory that contains files is also regarded as a file. Therefore, it is essential to ensure
the security of files and directories in the SUSE Linux operating systems. This hardening
item enhances the security of the operating system by setting rights for all the directories
and files except the /proc directory.
The policies for the SUSE Linux operating system include restricting access to system
directories, files, and executable files, enabling files and directories that have no owners,
restricting the use of the crob command, restricting access to the PATH directory, and
setting RO mounting.
 Warning banners
Warning banners are messages displayed when users log in to the system through Telnet,
FTP, or SSH. The messages indicate the penalties for unauthorized access to the system.
The banners hide system version information to prevent attacks to the system.

Feature Description 1 PRS Basic Package

Summary
The PRS enables users to create OSSs for managing NEs. Configuration and performance
data can be periodically collected from the OSSs. Collected data is automatically imported
into the PRS database.

Benefits
The PRS manages NEs of multiple OSSs. Users can create tasks for collecting and importing
data into the PRS by selecting the NEs as required. The PRS provides the OSS management
wizard so that the data can be automatically collected and imported into the PRS by executing
tasks without manual intervention.

Description
 OSS management
Users can use the OSS management wizard to create, modify, and delete OSS server
information. OSS properties include the OSS name, version, networking mode, OSS
account and password, port number, IP address of the FTP server, FTP account and
password, FTP port number, transfer mode, and protocol.
After users type the OSS server information, the PRS allows users to perform connection
test to check whether the typed information is correct. For an OSS server in the SLS
system, the PRS automatically identifies the IP addresses of slave servers and generates a
report on the connection between the master server and slave servers. This facilitates the
configuration of OSS information.
 NE access management
After the IP address of an OSS server is set, users can browse the information about NEs
managed by this OSS server by configuring parameters for NE access. Users can add
new NEs or delete connected NEs as required. The PRS provides reference values of
measurement periods for users to set measurement periods of data collection.
The PRS automatically installs NE models based on the selected NE types. If the NE
types are upgraded, the PRS automatically upgrades the NE models accordingly without
manual intervention, which improves user experience.
 Parameter configuration for data collection
Collection and import tasks can be performed either automatically or manually.
Automatic tasks can be performed periodically or at a specified time. Manual tasks must
be started by users and are performed immediately after being started. The PRS can
automatically collect configuration data and performance data periodically from one or

 User and user group

Users in a user group all have the same operation rights. Different user groups have
different operation rights. If you add a user to a user group, the user will have the rights
of that user group. A user can be added to multiple user groups. The rights of a user are
the combination of the rights assigned to the user and the rights of the user group that the
user belongs to.
 Object set and operation set rights
Operation set management is used to manage the rights of operations that can be
executed on the PRS.
 Object set and operation set rights
An object set is a set of managed devices. It is used for allocating operation rights of
devices to users or user groups. After an object group is added to the management
domain of a user or a user group, the user or users in the user group can manage rights by
NE.
An operation set is a set of multiple operations. It is used for allocating operation rights
to users or user groups. After an operation set is allocated to a user or user group, the
user or users in the group have the related device operation rights or application
operation rights. The PRS monitors and records important operations performed on a
client at specific time.
 OSS centralized user management and authentication
Single Sign On (SSO) refers to centralized management, authentication, and
authorization of user accounts of Huawei OSSs, such as M2000, PRS, and Nastar.
On a network where the PRS, M2000, and Nastar are all deployed, the M2000 server is
configured as the SSO server. After an SSO client is installed on each OSS (including
PRS, M2000, and Nastar) client, all OSSs operate in centralized authentication mode. In
this case, users need only to enter the user name and password for authentication when
logging in to the SSO server. After logging in to the SSO server, users can access and
switch between authorized OSSs without logging in to each OSS separately. The PRS
Web system and administration tool (AT) support centralized user management and
authentication but do not support login through the SSO server. The SSO client
communicates with the SSO server by using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol
(LDAP) and the communication supports Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption.

− Adjusting operating system kernel parameters

After this feature is enabled, the PRS displays a security warning message (banner) when
users perform activities related to system security, such as logging in to the PRS through
Telnet, FTP, or SSH. In addition, this feature provides system logs related to Inetd, FTP,
cron tasks, and daemon process for users to trace and audit operations performed on the
operating system.
Security hardening of a SUSE Linux operating system is performed by users using a
hardening tool. The security hardening tool conducts OS hardening based on the security
hardening policies preset in the PRS. Some hardening policies must be applied manually
in certain networking scenarios. For example, users must manually disable the remote
login of user root.
 Database hardening

against malicious attacks. This function also allows users to lock the default user
accounts that are not in use.
 Security management
This function provides user and rights management, security policy management,
antivirus solutions, and log management to enhance system security.
User and rights management centrally manages and authenticates users by providing
PRS system user, user group, and rights management. By providing device and operation
sets, the PRS manages devices and operations by category and assign rights to users and
user groups. When configuring internal user information, the information is obfuscated
to ensure security. User rights are controlled and only authorized users can view mobile
station international ISDN numbers (MSISDNs). In addition, telecom operators are
advised to assign two persons to operate the PRS and HLR independently to avoid
obtaining related MSISDNs by using international mobile subscriber identities (IMSIs)
or international mobile equipment identities (IMEIs).
Security policy management allows users to set password and account policies, and
access control list for user login.
Virus attacks are a major security threat faced by the OSS network. Huawei provides an
antivirus solution by deploying third-party software on the PRS that runs in the Windows
or SUSE Linux operating system.
The PRS records system operation information in logs and provides functions including
log query, log statistics, and log export. This helps users monitor and audit the operating
status of the PRS and operation execution.
