Chapter 1. General
1. General
1.2. Conventions
For the sake of brevity the following conventions are used in this book:
• The Data Collection User’s Manual is referred to as “DC UM”.
• The Route Analysis User’s Manual is referred to as “RA UM”.
The tables below list all information elements that can be presented by TEMS
Investigation Data Collection. For ease of reference, each category on the
Info Element tab is still covered in one single, alphabetically ordered list.
(Certain deviations from strict alphabetical order occur in the application in
order to achieve more logical orderings and groupings.) However, since the
number and diversity of the information elements are great, a special table
column with codes is used to distinguish important subgroups among the
elements.

ranking). Lowest index first.
• Strongest: Scrambling codes are ranked by descending Aggr
Ec/Io, for each scanned UMTS frequency separately.
• Weakest: Scrambling codes are ranked by ascending Aggr
Ec/Io, for each scanned UMTS frequency separately.
• Best (among all frequencies): Scrambling codes from all
scanned UMTS frequencies are ranked by descending Aggr
Ec/Io in a single list. The first argument is always 1 in this
case.
The arguments have the following meanings:
• Argument 1: UMTS frequency. Frequencies are ordered by
ascending UARFCN. This argument is not used with the
attribute “Best” (see above).
• Argument 2: Scrambling code. Scrambling codes are ordered
as specified by the chosen attribute (see above). Some “Sc”
elements are not differentiated for scrambling codes and
therefore lack this argument.

See also general remark above.
Sc Aggr Ec –130 ... –25 1 ... 4; CPICH scanning: The aggregate code
dBm 1 ... 512 power (energy per chip) of each
scanned scrambling code. The
aggregate code power is a measure of
the total signal power (distributed
around the main peak due to multipath
propagation) that is above the PN
threshold.
See also general remark above.

a. Note on Nokia phones: VTQI is based on transport channel
BLER. Nokia phones do not report BLER for individual
transport channels but only an average over all channels (see
Trsp Ch BLER, DL (Log). This means that VTQI scores based
on Nokia reports will not be accurate if further transport
channels are used in parallel with the one used for the video
call.

Chapter 6. Predefined Events
6. Predefined Events
Here all predefined events are listed and explained, along with any extra
information provided in the application (see section 7.2.3). All cause values
are decoded into plain-text format in the presentation. Not all of the extra
information listed in the table is necessarily included every time the event
occurs.
The descriptions of how events are triggered are not always exhaustive. In
exceptional cases, an event may be triggered by a message not mentioned
here.
Event symbols shown are default symbols in Data Collection; they can be
changed in line charts (DC UM section 19.4.3) and maps (DC UM section
21.5.4. In Route Analysis the symbols used for events are fixed.

Chapter 7. Overview of Presentation Windows
7. Overview of Presentation
Windows
This chapter explains the purpose of each window found on the Menu tab of
the Navigator in Data Collection as well as Route Analysis. The set of
presentation windows is nearly identical in the two applications; where
differences occur, they are pointed out below.
Note that only windows covered by your license will show up in the
applications. For example, if the license covers the GSM and WCDMA
technologies, all windows containing CDMA or EV-DO data will be hidden.
Data Bytes Sent/Received Shows the total number of data bytes sent
and received at various protocol levels.
