COURSE OBJECTIVE:

This course introduces fundamental concepts and methods of basic Numerical Analysis tools to
the engineering students. The objective of this course is given an introduction of Numerical
Analysis and their use for solving different problems. Learn to implement the methods
efficiently to the problems in several fields.
.
COURSE OUTLINE:

Floating points, Errors and types of Error, Solution of Non-Linear equations, Bisection, Regular
Falsi., Fixed point Iterative Method and Newton-Raphson methods, Solution of Linear algebraic
equations. Crout’s and Cholesky methods, Jacobi Iteration and Gauss-Seidel iteration methods,
Eigen values and Eigen vectors, Characteristics equation and power methods. Forward,
Backward, Central difference operators and their interpolation formulae, Lagrange and
Stirling’s interpolation formulae. Numerical Differentiation, Newton forward and backward
differentiation formulae. Numerical quadrature, trapezoidal, Simpson’s one-third, Simpson’s
three-eight and Weddle’s rules and Gaussian quadrature. Solution of Ordinary differential
equations, Taylor Series, Euler’s equation, Heun’s equation, Runge-Kutta, Milne’s, Adam-
Moltan (Predictor-Corrector) methods. Solution of higher order differential equations, Runge-
Kutta methods. Solution of partial differential equations by finite differences methods, explicit,
implicit and Crank-Nichelson techniques and ADI method.
