LEARNING PAPER ON PROBLEM-SOLVING METHOD

Being science teachers, we must not just rely on one or two teaching
methods and strategies in teaching our learners with science concepts and
principles. The learners may have multiple intelligences and they also have a
diversity of learning styles. Therefore, we must implore other methods that could
endow, develop, and enhance necessary skills such as critical thinking and
problem-solving skills as they deal with real-life problems.

Problem Solving methods in teaching science lessons can be an option. It

is a method wherein students are given challenges that must be solved
scientifically or technologically. It is a student-centered approach that requires
learners to take an active role in the learning process. This method follows the
scientific method in solving the problem. It enhances their critical thinking and
problem-solving skills as well as it increases their eagerness to attempt new
issues and their tenacity. Decision-making skills are also developed since
students will be confronted with a plethora of alternatives, but they must select
the best and most appropriate one to solve the problem. When the learners
discover potential answers to a problem, they feel a feeling of self-worth and
accomplishment.

Problem-solving is one of the best methods to achieved experiential and

meaningful learning towards the learners. However, we need also to consider the
expertise of the teacher both on the method and on the subject or science
principles. This method may have both benefits and drawbacks. In such a way
that there are no perfect methods or strategies in teaching. Therefore, it is at the
teacher's judgment on what appropriate teaching methods he/she should make
use of if it addressed learners' diversity of learning style. For, in the end, the
teachers know best for their learners.
