Scenario

Your friend is moving out of his parents’ house as he is looking forward to being an
independent person. After a few weeks of searching for a place to rent, he has found a house
that suits his requirement.

Thus, he needs to purchase a few home appliances such as a refrigerator, television,

kitchenware and other basic houseware. He seeks your help in making decisions to buy the
home appliances.

To be advised, his monthly salary is RM4,000 and apparently, he does not even have money
to buy all the things in cash. To date, he spends RM1,000 per month on his car and soon he
will spend RM800 per month on the house.

Task :

This is a group assignment and you must work in pairs. In this assignment, you are advised
to get the information from any online shop website that sells house appliances using
instalment plans. Choose three items/products from the online shop (enclose URL link,
detailed information or catalogue as proof). Finally, you are required to prepare a report that
shows calculations and decisions made.

Your report should consist of the following:

i. Name of the shop and information on the item/product.

ii. Cost/cash price of the item/product.
iii. Interest rate, duration of payment and the number of payments required.
iv. Calculations on the amount of interest charged, the monthly instalment and
the instalment price of the item/product. (using both original and reducing
balance methods)
v. Decision and justifications made from part (iv) on a preferred method.
