1. The Commedia dell’arte is a form a theatre known for its improvisation and colourful stock
characters, with performances set around basic plots with actors improvising dialogues.
2. The characters in commedia dell’arte were not trying to be realistic, rather they were stock
characters.
3. Dario Fo was especially inspired by the figure of the Arlecchino. In the play it is obvious that
the character if the maniac was inspired by this figure.
