1. What information is sent between the card and the card reader when it is
waved in front of it?
Ans: Expiration date, security code of 3 digits in back of the card and 16 digits card number are
sent to the card reader from the card when its waved in front of it.

2. Why is there an upper limit?


Ans: Upper limit is set by the bank because if the card has been stolen so the thief cant
withdrawal all the money in the account.

3 How many times can you use a Contactless card in a day?


Ans: As many times as you like, as long as your account can afford it. It depends on the
countries and their banks. In Pakistan I can use contactless card until daily maximum account is
exceeded.

5 What happens if you have two Contactless cards in the same wallet/purse?
Ans: Contactless card reading machine is reject the transaction because its designed to read one
card data at one time.

6 What happens when your Contactless card is stolen and you report it to the
bank? What does the bank do?
Ans: If my card is stolen than I will call the bank to report that my card has been stolen then
bank will block the card and the bank will also issue the new card.

1st person: I don’t know because I never experienced it.
2nd Person: May be machine will show an error.

1st person: Bank will block the card if I request so bank will issue me the new card

Q: Do you get the same or different explanations of the cards work?
Ans: Answers is same as mine except some answers of my friends because they never
experienced it. Otherwise the rest of their answers and my answers are almost same There are
some differences in some of the answers of my first friends as he thinks there is no limit about
maximum payment and number of transactions in a day. The answers from my second friend are
same as to mine.
Q2: What do your findings indicate? How accurate are people’s mental
models about the way contactless cards and smartphone Apple/Google Pay
work?
When I interviewed my friends they said they don’t know well about the contactless card. They
don’t know how it works, what is the advantage of it, what is the security risks, etc. They thought
me there will be more security issues in Contactless cards than normal cards as the contactless
card doesn’t need the pin for a transaction. My thought was also the same before studying it.
