Animal Migration
Every year many animals move from one place to another to find food,
water, better weather conditions or to nest and raise their young ones.
This movement is called migration.
The Manatee, Caribou and the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, migrate to
escape from the cold winds and for a better food supply. The Emperor
Penguin, Loggerhead Turtles, Monarch butterflies and California Gray Whales
migrate to lay their eggs.
These journeys are often thousands of miles and no one really knows
how they find their way. They do not have a map or compass to guide them.
Research done by scientist have discovered that animals use their sense of
smell, ocean currents, geographical land marks like mountains, coastlines and
stars to find their way.
