The Brand New Kid

Scene 1

Narrator: Today is the first day of school. All the children are excited to meet their friends after a
long holiday!

Ellie: Hello Shelly ! How are you? How did your holidays go?

Shelly : Hi Ellie! Doing good ! I had a fun filled holiday.

Ellie: I wonder what is in store for us this year. Which section are you?

Shelly : I am in grade 3 A.

Ellie : That’s great . Even I’m in the same class. This year we are going to rock

Scene 2 – In the classroom

Students : Good morning mam ( As the teacher enters)

Teacher : Good morning children ! Welcome to grade 3 !

The teacher calls out the roll

Teacher :Anne, Emily, Peter, Ruskin, Shelly….. ( the students answer the roll)

Teacher : We have a new student in our class. His name is also new- Lasko Gaskey. He is new
to our town also. Please welcome him. Won’t you’ll say Hi ?

The students just stared at him His hair was so blond, why it looked almost white. It stuck out all
over, it didn’t look right. His lips were bright pink, his eyes very blue. He looked at his feet and
he fidgeted too.

Lasko: In a loud voice “Hello”

The other kids laughed, at this new boy .

Teacher: Now, all quite, “Let’s focus on learning and getting things right.”
The teacher writes on the board and the students write in their note book. The bell rings, all the
children go the play ground to play.

Scene 3

Peter : Hey look at this hair it looks all white.

Ruskin : Ha Ha look at his eyes ! its blue and what a terrific look he gives !

Joe : his voice is booming loud and Look at this dressing ( Throws a soft ball on him) Hey catch
it!

Peter : He is weird and too different and strange to fit in to our class!

Lasko : just bowed his head and felt very sad.

Scene 4
Elllie sees a lady who is very sad speaking to their teacher.

Ellie: who is that ?

Shelly : Oh, that’s Lazlo’s mother her son’s having trouble, she might pull him out, this school
may be wrong for him, she’s full of doubt.

Ellie : Oh no” we have to do something ! things are really different and strange for him. I’ve got
it!

Ellie looks for Lazlo and finds him…

Ellie : Lazlo hi! Would you like to come over and play soccer with me this evening?

Lazlo: (astonished) Please come to my house and play.

Ellie : Sure I can! Let’s pick a day.

Lazlo : How about Thursday?

Ellie: Lets meet up on Thursday.

Scene 5
(At Laslo’s house)

Mother : Welcome dear ! (offers cookies and some pastries)

Laslo : Ellie eat these cookies. My mother is a great chef. She makes yummy pastries. Come lets
play chess.

Ellie : oh no ! I do not know chess.

Laslo : don’t worry! I’ll teach you.

Ellie : This afternoon is really great fun.

Laslo : Thanks a ton Ellie for coming home and being my friend in a new ntown.

Scene 6

( In school, the next day, Ellie and Laslo come together)

Peter: Ellie are you sick ? Why are you talking to laslo?

Ellie : All of you listen. Laslo isn’t that different from you and me. He is terrific in chess and
soccer. He may look strange and have a different accent and stuff but if you know him you
would like him it wouldn’t be tough. His mom is really sweet as the good pastries she makes.

Ruskin : We are all very sorry Laslo ! Come lets all play together.

Joe : Yes we will all play. Today is a beautiful day. We all can be like Ellie, the one who makes
the difference and that one person, doing the right thing when no one else will.
