Case Study/Scenario
Using the business that you currently work for, use a process (work) that you currently do every day to re-
engineer.
When you work at the same company for a while and do the same job every day, you unusually determine a
way to that same job quicker and more efficient saving the company money and time as well as free up extra
time to do other jobs you may not have had enough time to do previously. You can also use these as
examples of what re-engineering technology is;
Paper Based Cards to Opal – a re-engineering process that came from America and was
incorporated into Australia as a new process for travel. Another re-engineering process was to
enable that people can use their Visa/Mastercard to tap on to pay for travel.
Car Registration at RTA office to Car Registration Online – No more registration stickers are required
as they have moved to online method. When police want to determine if the car is registered they
type in the registration number into the Police/RTA database and if it is registered it is not flagged.
Payslips paper-based to Payslips emailed and/or using a CMS. This had changed from a
requirement from the Australian Taxation Office and the use of MYOB that automatically sends the
pay receipts to the payee from the software and is already registered paying their tax as well as their
superannuation.
The company may need to incorporate a website and/or have software created to ensure their
business runs better, is automated, an online store to sell products all around the world and for
marketing/advertising purposes.
