The Treasure in Mathematics

what we always do and as for our teacher is to give relevance to the topic in the sense that show us how
we can apply the lesson in the real world, often students would say studying some lessons are really
irrelevant since it cannot be used and I am one of those students who sometimes agree to that and use
it as an excuse. Little do we know how mathematics revolves around us not only in the aspect of math
and sciences but also in biology, architecture, arts, history, and even music there is math. What I want to
talk about is what we call the golden number and why is it describe like that why is it mark as "golden".
Phi was express in the symbol of uppercase Φ, lowercase φ or ϕ and express in number 1.618, are
infinite successions of number that called in the mathematics world as treasure because of the
functionality of this number and what it symbolizes. The video aforementioned only shows how
Fibonacci spiral, golden ratio, and golden spirals a type of equiangular spirals appear in living organisms
like sunflower, pinecones, and shells. Some characteristics of spirals of living organisms are that the
spirals have irregular angles, irregular proportions, etc., however in the article equiangular spirals will
increase the size but the curves, angles shapes and other factors do not change basically all are in
equilibrium and often shown in non-living organisms like the hurricanes and the galaxy.
To sum it all, it’s hard to explain how numbers influence nature, even our bodies have a precise ratio,
numbers, sequence, angles, and many more but this just proves the importance and relevance of math
even how hard some are to understand, the functionality is an indispensable resource for humans.

Essay about the video
During our elementary-age teachers would always say the words “math is all around us” and when I
think of that I thought it was an exaggeration of words since math aren’t always seen physically or
express in numbers what I can only relate to is money, which also uses the principles of arithmetic such
as the operations and numbers. Although I only saw it one-sided the knowledge in math grew bigger and
bigger as we’re introduced to another branch of it like geometry, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and
many more.
The start of the video implies the relation of the Fibonacci sequence, golden spiral, and golden ratio
wherein the succession of numbers from the sequence is equal to the area of the square but weirdly
they form a rectangle out of it. What I notice is that the rectangle form out of 2 squares will have a
smaller and bigger one, the length of the side of the shape when added and divided by the larger length
will be equal near 1.618 or what we call the golden ratio the likeability of the golden ratio and the
computation I did will increase as the Fibonacci sequence also increases.
How impossible might it seems but nature and living organism also follow the golden number or the
golden spiral, examples that are used in the videos are sunflower, shells, and dragonfly. The sunflower
seeds follow a formation in exact 137.5 degrees creating a pattern which are eye-catching and appealing
which is one of the characteristics of an object or even an organism having a golden ratio because of its
harmony. The shells forming the spiral from lines to 3-dimensional is nice to see and the golden ratio is
really evident, lastly on the video about the dragonfly is I’m a bit confused how the wings of the
dragonfly related to the golden ratio since I cannot see harmony and patterns that would show the use
of golden ratio but the eyes of the said insect in the elliptical honeycomb shape does indeed in the
golden ratio. You see math does indeed around us and present in organisms.
