About the Selected Village Pappampatti is a residential village in the Coimbatore-East
Taluk, Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, India. It is along SH
163, called the Cochin Frontier road that supports village with
higher growth rate in the last 2 decades. The total population
recorded as per 2011 census is 4143, with total number of
houses counted as 1172. Village literacy rate is 69.2% with a
working population of 47.7%. With increased literacy rate in
past decades, around 60% of backward working population

have moved towards city for better occupational opportunities.
With this current scenario among the population there are
around 3% of migrants from North working in industries in
and around Pappampati and countable number of bakeries
have evolved, owned and managed by Kerala migrants and
localities as well, giving them a good income as Pappampatti
is a junction village uniting Peedampalli and the South-East
villages to the Cochin Frontier Road. The economic stability
of the population is supported by its nearby villages like;
Kallapalayam, Chinnakuyili and Periyakuyili, with mining,
poultry and cotton mills being the major Industries. Shanthi
Feed Pvt Limited is yet another industry in Papampati,
manufacturing poultry feeds for live stocks.

Infrastructural facilities EDUCATION FACILITIES- Govt. middle school functions


available very effectively and maintains a good number of increases in
students admission every year. Sri Sukha Brahma Maharishi
Vidhyalaya is a Private Higher Secondary school located in
Pappampati, it also runs a nursing college.

ROAD CONNECTIVITY- roads connecting Pappampati to


Coimbatore city, other roads connecting nearby villages with
Pappampati and especially the Cochin Frontier road is well
maintained and from December 2020, SH 163 is been
reconstructed and also widened as the Government has
observed increased traffic in it.

TRANSPORTATION- there are around 6 Government buses


connecting Pappampatti- nearby villages- Coimbatore city, 2
private busses operating; one connecting the village to
Coimbatore City and another connecting the village to
Palladam city. Share autos are available from Pappampati,
transporting villagers until Sulur main road, connecting it to
Trichi road and NH47.

WATER FACILITIES- Athikidavu water source contributes


80% of drinking utility in Pappampatti, bore well water is still
used for drinking and other utilities by many families in the
village.

HEALTH CENTRE- a primary health care Centre and 2


private clinics are facilitated, for a well facilitated hospital
have to travel 10 kms to the nearby Private hospital located
in Kannampalayam. As a village, Pappampatti also has a
Veterinary hospital, serving the near by villages like
Kallapalayam, Peedampalli, Chinnakuyili and Periyakuyili.

Major Industries Mining, poultry and cotton mills are the major industries
supporting life of Pappampati villagers. There are around 5
major minig industry supporting around 200 families in this
village. Shanthi Feed Pvt Limited is yet another industry in
Papampati, manufacturing poultry feeds, cattle feeds, Poultry
feed supplement powder, etc., for live stocks, as it is located
on SH163 people from nearby villages are also employed here,
the employees here are estimated to be around 800-900.

State Govt. Schemes Under the THAI- Tamil Nadu Village Habitations
Improvement Scheme, in the year 2012 improvements in the
basic habitations where improved. This scheme components
included,
i) Water supply- overhead tanks, which now is the main tank
distributing drinking water to Pappampatti, Kallapalayam
and Periyakuyili.
ii) Street lights
iii) Cement concrete roads
iv)Link roads
v)Cremation/Burial grounds

Under Antyodaya Anna Yojna(AAY) & Universal Public


distribution System(UPDS) fair price shop is set up and
functioning providing basic groceries in the least price to the
card holders.

Under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act


(NREGA), India, around 100 to 150 villagers are given 100
days employment.

Entertainment Sector Commercial complex is found along the main roads and a
public playground is maintained by the government. Every
Monday evening local market is organized where villagers
from around 6-7 nearby villages bring down their vegetables
and other products to sell out.
