Modified E-Kart

Introduction
A go-kart is a type of open wheel car, generally used for sports (racing). These are also used for
recreational purposes.

An electric go-kart is a type of go-kart powered by electric motors and batteries, as opposed to
traditional petrol engine. Electric go-karts are mostly intended for recreational usage. But high-
performance models are also available for more serious kart racing.

Scope of the Project

Most common E-karts available in the country are single seater. We are planning to make a 4-seater
E-kart, which is comfortable to ride, cheap to manufacture and safe for usage. We will also be
making some modifications in the designs of the previous E-Kart made in our institution.

Parts of E-kart
1. Chassis

It is the skeleton of the kart. It is generally made with tubes or GI pipes. All our previous
karts were made with pipes of circular cross section. But this year we are making the chassis
using pipes of square cross section, as it provides ease of machining and welding, without
reducing its strength.

2. Electric Motor

E-karts are run using electric motors. These motors can be battery powered or solar
powered.

3. Transmission

Transmission system of a kart is used to transfer power from motor to the wheels. We will
be using a chain drive in our kart.

4. Brake

We will be using disc brake in our kart. The brake fluid used will be DOT-2 brake fluid.

5. Tyres

Wet type tyres will be used in the kart for better traction and to make it suitable for general
use.

Modifications
The following modifications will be made in our kart, as compared to karts previously manufactured
in our college:

1. The kart will be a 4-Seater kart. Previous karts were single seater.

2. Larger tyres will be used for better ground clearance.

3. The chassis will be Cage- type. Previous karts had open chassis.

4. Suspensions will be used in the kart to increase the comfort of the passengers.
