I appreciate the appointment of the first homegrown CEO of Grameenphone.

The CEO was an internal candidate and he has better knowledge regarding the company, the
employees, operations, processes, etc. Internally developed leaders preserve corporate culture. So,
it can be assumed that the CEO would be able to perform his job without taking a long time for
knowing the organization. Besides, recruitment and selection costs are lower. After seeing this, the
other employees will be motivated and loyal to their work for better results in the future and this
would put a great impact on succession management.

Succession planning is one of the most important strategic plans of any organization.Succession
management is needed even when there is no vacant positions to fill up. To face any sort of
uncertainties, such as ; sudden death of the CEO, early retirement, etc.s succession management is a
must. But it has some risks as well.Discussion is given below:

Through succession management , managers look for the future candidates for a particular
position . If the managers choose the wrong employees for their succession planning , the efforts
might go in vain.
