Directions: Explain the 7 C’S PRINCIPLE OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION. Each principle

must be explained in 2 to 3 sentences.

7 C’S PRINCIPLE OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

1. Be clear -Be explicit about your aim or message while writing or speaking to someone.
What are you trying to achieve by speaking with this person? If you're unsure, your
audience will be unsure as well. To be understandable, keep the number of ideas in each
sentence to a minimum. Make sure that your reader can grasp what you're saying. People
shouldn't have to "read between the lines" or make assumptions to figure out what you're
trying to convey on their own. The required information and activities must be clearly stated
so that the reader has the information they require to take action.

2. Be concise -When you communicate concisely, you stick to the point and keep it short.
Your audience isn't interested in reading six sentences when you might get your message
through in three.

3. Be concrete -When your message is specific, your audience understands exactly what
you're saying. There are plenty of details (but not too many!), vivid facts, and laser-like
focus. Your message is clear and concise.

4. Be correct -When your message is on point, it is tailored to your target audience. And
error-free communication is the same as correct communication. Is the level of education or
understanding of your audience reflected in the technical phrases you use? Have you
double-checked your work for grammatical mistakes? Remember that spell checkers aren't
perfect. Is the spelling of all names and titles correct?

5. Be coherent -Your message's flow must be reasonable. Every sentence in your email or
report should be connected to the one before it and related to the topic at hand. If your
writing isn't coherent, the reader will rapidly lose sight of what you've said.

6. Be complete - The audience has all they need to be informed and, if necessary, take
action in a full message. Is there a "call to action" in your message that lets your audience
know exactly what you want them to do? Have you included all pertinent information, such
as contact names, dates, times, and locations?

7. Be courteous -In a business atmosphere, being courteous is quite important. Individuals

who work together are not necessarily friends, therefore being courteous is essential for
maintaining a strong working relationship.

Individuals will be troubled by hidden insults and harsh tones, resulting in lower morale and
productivity.
