staff, I am very grateful for having them as my part of my On-the-Job Training. I thank them so

much for all of their advice and everything they taught me during my time with them, and especially

for the memories we shared – the happy moments, the sad ones, the rush hours, the brainstorming

and nerve-wracking days, and everything they did that contributed to my development as a human

being.

To my friends and co-trainees, for their happiness and for being there to support me and to

comfort me whenever I have difficulties during my training. To Andrew Rey Esteve and Ariel

Dasmariñas, I thank you for the teamwork and friendship we had during our training and for being

the best companions whom I can share my laughter and sorrows with.

INSTITUTION PROFILE

The Municipal Engineering Office (MEO) is primarily created to provide engineering

services including investigation and survey, engineering designs, feasibility studies, and project

management. It is one of the mandatory offices created through Republic Act 7160 or the Local

Government Code of 1991 and its functions are outlined in Article 7, Section 477 of this Act.

This Engineering Office shall also act as the Local Building Office as stated on the same

Local Government Code of 1991 and its enforcing guidelines as manifested in the Presidential

Decree No. 1096 otherwise known as the National Building Code of the Philippines (NBCP)

thereby revising Republic Act Numbered Sixty-Five Hundred Forty-One (RA No. 6541).

DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS OF THE MUNICIPAL ENGINEERING

OFFICE

The engineer shall take charge of the engineering office and shall:

▪ Initiate, review and recommend changes in policies and objectives, plans and

programs, techniques, procedures and practices in infrastructure development and

public works in general of the local government unit concerned;

▪ Advise the governor or mayor, as the case may be, on infrastructure, public works,

and other engineering matters;

▪ Administer, coordinate, supervise, and control the construction, maintenance,

improvement, and repair of roads, bridges, and other engineering and public works

projects of the local government unit concerned;

▪ Provide engineering services to the local government unit concerned, including

investigation and survey, engineering designs, feasibility studies, and project

management;

▪ In the case of the provincial engineer, exercise technical supervision over all

engineering offices of component cities and municipalities; and

▪ Exercise such other powers and perform such other duties and functions as may be

prescribed by law or ordinance.

ON- THE JOB-TRAINING PROGRAM

On-the-job training is a required component of engineering programs at a variety

of colleges and academic institutions. Which does not have to be finished for a certification

course. Every student's life revolves around this training time. Training in the sense that it

provides a variety of ideas and also encourages students to think outside of the box in order

to foster their ingenuity and innovative abilities.

After successfully completing their studies, students must face this competitive

world with this knowledge to confront many challenges and discover the proper solutions

in the shortest amount of time. Some difficulties can be solved with our knowledge, while

others can only be handled with our experience. We gained experience by understanding

the types of failures that can occur, as well as how to fix them and think logically and

technically about how to eliminate them.

The College's OJT program focuses on the development of knowledge and skills in

order to apply theories and concepts. Students would benefit from interactions with

industry specialists in relevant sectors, which would provide insight and education.

Having a proper On-the-Job Training helps in the preparation of future

professionals for their future jobs. What the students learned in their training, even the little

things can be applied when they are already working. Students will be trained not only

academically but socially as well. The way they work and communicate with the others

will not be a problem for them anymore. It also gives the trainee he chances to immerse

himself in his chosen field and experience and learn the skills necessary to the industry

he/she interested in. Working with experienced staff, one will be able to observed how the

job is done properly.

Aside from work experience, On-the-Job Training allows the trainee to get

acquainted with the real professionals and to meet people with different positions in the

company, either high or low. The trainee will be able to know how to adjust to other

people’s personalities and attitudes.

AREA OF TRAINING

The Municipal Engineering office in the Municipality of Pili served as our training

ground for our On-the-Job training, and it is made up of a wide range of responsibilities in

and out, particularly in terms of the number of projects to be presided over.

LEARNINGS

The training I received at the Local Government Unit of Pili - Municipal

Engineering Office provided me with a great amount of knowledge and experience on a

daily basis. I was exposed to real-world work in one of the LGU-Pili offices, where I

learned about the documents, plans, and processes involved in a construction project, as

well as how to use common office programs, tools, and equipment. Aside from that, I've

learnt to be more sociable and to adapt to the environment in which I work and the people

with whom I work.

In my days during my training at the Municipal Engineering Office, I learned many

things not only that knowledge related to my course/expertise but also the things that

formed me into the person I am right now. As I work there as a trainee, I learned to become

a hard-working, a time conscious and also a responsible person. The time to finish the task

assigned to me is important, to discipline myself and also to do it correctly intime. I need

to adjust myself in order to focus in one task to another because sometimes we have class

to other subjects that made it hard for me to focus. This was a challenge to me because

while I was working, I need to attend my online class. However, I managed to finish my

training thanks to my superiors that was very considerate to me and help me with internet

connection during that time. I learned to appreciate those lesson that were taught to us in

our school. This is where I realized that those formulas, notes and theories are applied in

the real-world. There are also terms that was used during my training and this was discussed

to us in our school that are important in an actual work. During my training, I learned the

importance of following the instructions that the superior has given and to sometimes rely

on your own strategy on how to solve the problem effectively and efficiently with this you

can learn on your own.

After the training, I realized that this program is not only an obligation for us to

complete, but it is also an opportunity for us to demonstrate our abilities, knowledge, and

talents, as well as to experience what it is like to work in an actual field.

Aside from the experiences and knowledge I gain related to my course, this training

allowed me to get acquainted with the employees of the LGU-Pili. Being with them is a

pleasure because I was working with the engineers and employees. They often give us

advice and encourage us to do our best always because when you try why not try your best.

I won’t forget our days with our supervisor, he is a kind of person that always give

us advice even in small things. He taught us his techniques and knowledge that he’s using

during his work to make his work easier but correct. He always wants us to try new things

to experience in order for us to learn with it and also helped us choosing our thesis topic

and also assisting us in details. The people I met during my training left me a piece of

advice that I will surely keep in my mind and my heart for the rest of my life.

I really had a very productive and memorable training at the Municipal Engineering

Office. I am looking forward to work with them again, not as a trainee, but as an engineer,

someday.

Achievements

a. Learned Skills and Current Technological Knowledge

During the training period, we learned skills from the Person-in-Charge and

other personnel, such as inspecting architectural and structural plans, estimating

projects, identifying structural faults during the construction period, and

techniques while using AUTOCAD to work more quickly and efficiently.

The development of my interpersonal skills, teamwork and my self-

confidence were highlighted during my training. The training helps me

improved these skills. These skills assist me during challenges and difficulties

I experience in my training.

b. Equipment Handled

We were able to handle and properly apply the knowledge we gained

in our previous year in the surveying subject, where we were able to use

surveying instruments in measuring and surveying a specific site, as well as

compute the amount of sand or gravel in volume in the delivered

construction materials via trucks with the use of surveying instruments such

as measuring tape.

CONCLUSION
Experience is the perfect learning tool especially in the field of engineering. This

training serves as a stepping stone toward my goal of becoming a professional Civil

Engineer. This training inspires me to study harder and be more committed to achieving

my ambitions. I've been encouraged to be like engineers since I was given some ideas about

their profession in the institution where I was trained.

Despite the pandemic, there are no excuses in gaining knowledge and experience

as long as you are committed to it but rest assured that your safety and health is the top

priority. The training improved my confidence which give me a good foundation to be a

good employee someday. It served as my everyday source of experience and learning as I

go near to my ambitions.

I gained intensive learning experience, ethical working values, enhanced

communication skills, improved professional self-development, and confident self-

competence after completing the required number of hours for On-the-Job Training. the

trainees not only gained practical skills, but also had the opportunity to meet new people

and learn how to interact with them ethically. In addition, the trainee was able to contribute

to the company's demand for help.

As a result of these observations, having an internship or on-the-job training

program is critical to students' preparation for the "real world" of work. This internship, as

a style of learning, will go a long way toward making the trainee a better worker if it

During inspection, we observed that the bars are not

aligned and there is an error in the placement of the
bars. With this error, they try to bend the vertical
bars and I think it is not advisable because it might
affect the strength of the member.

August 25, 2021. It is a sunny day and it is also a busy day. For
the reason that we conducted multiple inspections in different
places. First project we visited is the dumpsite facility with a
completed installation of roofing sheets and on-going tiling of
the comfort room. The next site is in Sitio Boncao, Curry. It is
the construction of the new school for children. Based from the
photo taken, the labors from this project are just the citizens of
the Sitio and also guided by a skilled laborer and also the
engineer. Last site we visited is in the Sto. Niño, Pili.
