Many people argue that in order to improve educational quality, high school
students are encouraged to make comments or even criticism on their
teachers. Others think it will lead to loss of respect and discipline in the
classroom. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Answer:

There has been an ongoing debate about whether high school students should be
permitted to review their teachers. There are valid arguments on both views, which
will be discussed below.

On the one hand, it is true that feedback from students may help enhance the
quality of education. First, students' degree of comprehension is heavily influenced
not by the substance of the lesson but by how teachers deliver it. Besides, based on
the comments of students, teachers would find it easier to know the appropriate
speed of the lesson is appropriate for the class, and they adjust themselves to their
students.Second, students the freedom in expressing their thoughts and feelings
would enable them to become more proactive. For instance, many countries are
promoting students-centred teaching and focuses on having two-way discussions
between teachers and learners. This approach will not only make student more
involved in classroom activities but also helps understand and memorize lessons
faster.

On the other hand, some believe that there are several drawbacks of allowing
students to make comments and criticism on their teachers. To begin with, students
would become more interested in finding errors in their teachers rather than
concentrating on their studies. Therefore, children will stop respecting their
teachers and can even blackmail them for not giving a good evaluation. In addition,
teachers can be vulnerable to the negative words of students. Many teachers will
feel that their efforts in delivering the lesson deserve praise rather than criticism or
any form of feedback. Furthermore, due to the large number of comments, the
classroom may be in disarray. Opinions vary from students to students, and it
would be difficult for teachers to devise a method of instruction that can satisfy all
students.
In conclusion, although allowing students to make judgement on teachers would
result in enhanced pedagogical methods of the teachers, I hold a strong belief that
teachers should not be judged or criticised by students as they can lose the respect
of students and degrade the atmosphere of the class.
