Woodrow crockett the amazing

Tuskegee airman
Woodrow Crockett was born in Homan Miller county on august,31,1918. His parent’s names
were William Crockett and Lucindan Crockett. He had five brothers and sisters growing up in
Texarkana. When he was a child he was given the nickname woody. In 1940 Woody left
Dunbar college because he could not afford the tuition to stay in his college. Shortly after that he
decided to join the military.
Crocket earned his privilege to fly in march, 1943 and was the 79th black pilot to graduate
from the Tuskegee program. Woody logged about 5,000 flight hours over the course of his
career. The german POWs had more luxury than the black pilots had, Woody was quoted
saying “things were not too glamorous.” Woody graduated from the air command and staff
college in 1953 and rose the command ranks. In 1951 during the atomic bomb tests in the
marshall islands Woody led tests for the f-106 Delta dart fighter.
In my opinion Woodrow crockett is a hero because he had to overcome bigtroy and
discrimination in order to rise through military ranks. He was an officer to tuskegee airman
organizations and spoke to community groups about his wartime experience. I think when he
spoke about his wartime experience he provided encouragement to the other pilots. I learned
how you could overcome anything while under extreme pressure. Another thing I learned is how
while overcoming obstacles you overcome your dreams as well.
In 2007 Crockett and other tuskegee airmen received the congressional gold medals which
was the highest country civilian honours. He also had four children and a wife named Daisy
McMurray Crockett. He also suffered from a disease, said his daughter Marcia Crockett. He was
a very good man in both his family life and military life.He passed away on Aug,16,2012. He
was buried in Washington DC at the Arlington national cemetery.
In conclusion Woodrow crockett was an amazing tuskegee airman. Who rose through the
ranks after facing bigotry and discrimination. After coming from the humble beginnings of a
small town. He helped pave the way for african Americans to be great in the military. He
overcame obstacles while overcoming his dreams at the same time.
