🧩🧩🧩 1st OBA's Question 🧩🧩🧩

Draw one general principle each from the behavior of Dakṣa and Satī, giving at least one reference each
from Chapters 2 to 4. How can you personally apply these principles in your practice of Kṛṣṇa
consciousness?

In General even Daksha was chief of progenitor with many good qualities, But due to enviousness toward
Lord Siva, he became angry and insulted Lord siva. As mentioned in SB 4.2.8

präì-niñaëëaà måòaà dåñövä

nämåñyat tad-anädåtaù
uväca vämaà cakñurbhyäm
abhivékñya dahann iva
Dakña became greatly angry, and, his eyes glowing, he began to speak very strongly against Lord Çiva.
So we learnt from behavior of Daksha that
 Anger is very detrimental
 one who desires to make tangible advancement in spiritual consciousness must avoid three things
— lust, anger and the mode of passion.
 lust, anger and passion make a man crazy, even though he be as great as Dakṣa
 when a person offends a Vaiṣṇava he can perform any abominable action

so I have to be very careful and maintain good sadhana to keep myself in mode of goodness and
not to be in mode of passion or mode of ignorance, by being in mode of goodness I may able to
keep my consciousness pure, and never fall prey to anger unto anyone specially unto to vaishnava
devotees of lord. As also mentioned in bG 16.21 tri-vidhaà narakasyedaà
dväraà näçanam , lust greed & anger three gates leading to hell, so would take this very seriously
not to give brith to anger , unless for service of lord and devotees, also in BG 2.63 krodhäd
bhavati sammohaù
sammohät småti-vibhramaù from anger arise illusion and bewilderment of memory followed by
lost of intelligent. So anger is very dangerous in spiritual life will be very careful by good
sadhana and good association.

Sati as a wife of Lord Siva , as most chaste lady and as controller of material energy , having all
the good qualities and in particular not allow her husband name to go down. So here I want to
point out that same anger which daksha used and fall down from his position but same anger used
by sati for higher purpose and service of Lord Siva. In Sb 4.4.10 jagarha sämarña-vipannayä
girä, sva-tejasä bhüta-gaëän samutthitän nigåhya devé
The followers of Lord Çiva, the ghosts, were ready to injure or kill Dakña, but Saté stopped them by
her order. She was very angry and sorrowful, and in that mood she began to condemn the process of
sacrificial fruitive activities. In this verse we learnt one behavior that eventhough followers of lord Siva
were ready to injue kill Daksha, but sati stoped them, she knew what is proper punishment to be given to
daksha and she herself took the atonement instead of punishing daksha herself.
In same sloka mentioned she was very angry and sorrowful. So why she was angry.
Lord Çiva is considered the foremost personality amongst the Vaiñëavas. Vaiñëavänäà yathä çambhuù.
Thus when Saté saw that her father was performing great sacrifices but had no respect for the greatest
devotee, Lord Çiva, she was very angry. This is fitting; when Viñëu or a Vaiñëava is insulted, one
should be angry. When Viñëu or a Vaiñëava is blasphemed or dishonored, one should be very angry.
Narottama däsa Öhäkura said, krodha bhakta-dveñi jane. We have anger, and that anger can be a great
quality when directed against a person who is envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead or His
devotee. One should not be tolerant when a person is offensive towards Viñëu or a Vaiñëava. The anger
of Saté towards her father was not objectionable, for although he was her father, he was trying to
insult the greatest Vaiñëava. Thus Saté's anger against her father was quite applaudable. This is
one the principle from behavior of Sati. Sati used angrer in the service of lord and she didn’t remain
silence when Lors siva a chief vaishnava was insulted.
So from this general principle I learned that I will very careful not to offend vaisnava but also will be
careful not to hear vaishava offense, but lesson learned from sati and desire to apply in personal life is ,
will not remain silent when a pure vaisnava or devotees of lord visnu , or even when lord is being
insulted. Will either leave the place or close by ears, so not to listen to vaishavna offenses. If possible
will take help of others to give necessary punishment to the offender of lord visnu . As such offender
must be punished as soon as possible. So not to commit offense again and or otherwise in next life would
might have to suffer more severe punishment so best to punish , otherwise he will continue to offend
more, he must be given lesson immediately . In this way I may utilize this anger in service of Lord visnu
and or lords devoee pure vaishnavas.
So conclusion is same anger destroyed daksha but same anger has elevated sati , and sati got another body
to serve Lord siva better position.
So will be carful to not allow myself to become angry unless for protection of devotees or service of
devotee or lord vishnu

FEEDBACK;

Student’s endeavor to write this work is appreciated and it is obvious that the student has
understood the subject matter quite well. However, some rooms for improvement would be as
follows:

 Please refer to the guidelines for writing Open Book Assessment provided by
Mayapur Institute:
Quick checklist while writing an essay:
 Break questions in parts.
 Analyze & Weight each part.
 Make mind-map or outline of contents.
 Write section headers.
 Find Srila Prabhupada Quotes or References for each Section.
 Write body/paragraphs of each section.
 Write Introduction & Conclusion.
 Proofread & Edit – at least on two different days after the day essay was
completed.

 Identify and state the general principle clearly and support it with appropriate
references from the section.
 It can be written in bold and in a separate line so that it is distinct from rest of the
text.
 Structure the essay so that it has a good flow.
 Student could be careful in using capital letters wherever necessary.
 Though spelling and grammar errors do not affect the marks, it is always nice to
present a work without such errors, especially a work on Srimad Bhagavatam!
 The spelling and grammar checking feature of Microsoft Word would easily help
in this regard.

Though it appears that the student has done a last minute rush work, the presentation is
appreciated. Overall the student possesses a good understanding of the subject. Keep up the good
work!
