D. Give short answers to the following questions (page No 89):

Q1. What do you mean by weather?


Ans. The condition of atmosphere of a particular place at particular time is called weather. Weather
is never constant, it changes during the day and from day to day. Weather can be sunny, cloudy, windy,
rainy, foggy, misty etc.
Q2. Name the four things on which weather depends upon.
Ans. The four things on which whether depends on are Sun, Wind, Clouds, Rain.
Q3. What is hibernation? Give examples and also draw them.

Ans. Hibernation is a type of deep sleep some animals go into during winters. In hibernation body
temperature is lowered, breathing and heart rate slows down. Hibernation protects the animals
from Cold and reduces the need for food during the season when food is scarce. Examples of the
animals which undergoes hibernation are bats, snakes, snails etc

E. Answer the following question:

Q1. What do you mean by water cycle? Explain with help of a diagram.

Ans. Water cycle is the cyclic exchange of water within the Earth and atmosphere. It is a complex
system that includes many different processes. Liquid water evaporates into water vapors, condenses
to form clouds and precipitates back to earth in form of rain and snow.
Q2. How do Seasons affect our lives?

Ans. Seasons affect many aspects of our daily lives. They have an influence on what we eat and
what we wear. Our daily life activities also vary from season to season. For example, during winters
we wear woollen clothes and prefer to drink hot beverages. Similarly during summer season, we
wear cotton clothes and prefer to have cold drinks and cold food.
Q3. Why is rainy season important for the farmers?

Ans. Good water supply increases the crop production, rainy season is important for the farmers.

Q4. Each season plays an important part in our lives. Which season do you like the most and why?

Note. Students may be asked to pen down their choices/views.

Ans. On a hot sunny day rate of evaporation increases and hence clothes dry faster.

Q2. Why earthworm called a farmer’s friend?

Ans. Earthworms make burrows in the soil and make it porous which helps in respiration and
penetration of developing plant root. So, earthworms are called farmers friends.

Q3. Which season is called festive season and Why?

Ans. Autumn is called the festive season. Autumn begins after rainy season in the month of October.
It is called festive season as we celebrate many festivals like Dussehra, Durga Puja and Diwali in this
season.

Q4. Name two festival that we celebrate during winter season.

Ans. Lohri and Christmas are two festivals which we celebrate in winter season.
