The main objective of this presentation is to expose the students to the application of
mathematics in basic business, finance and investments.

2. SCOPE OF PRESENTATION
a) Students are required to plan for TWO case studies for TWO of the following sub-
topics:
➢ Simple interest
➢ Compound interest
➢ Trade discount
➢ Retailing mathematics.
c) Finally, present all the PowerPoint slides (2 case studies & calculation) in the
online platform (google meet, webex, etc). Each group is allocated 15-20 minutes to
deliver the presentation.
Students are required to present and submit the PowerPoint slides ON WEEK 13.

Example of the Case Study:
The director of Aima Sdn. Bhd., Mdm Hafizah plans to borrow money for her business
expansion. She intends to borrow RM300,000 from AIMB Bank which charge an interest rate
of 4.5% compounded monthly.
a) Calculate the total amount she has to pay AIMB Bank at the end of ten years.
b) Calculate the total interest charged by the AIMB Bank.
c) If MNB Bank offers an interest rate of 4.5% compounded quarterly, calculate the total
amount she has to pay at the end of ten years.
Senheng Electric Sdn. Bhd is the largest consumer electronics retail chain store in Malaysia.
Glory Supermarket ordered 25 units of Panasonic brand refrigerator from Senheng and
received trade discounts of 20% and 10%. The net price of each unit of the refrigerator is
RM3688.
