In Game marketing (video clip summary)

To summarize, the video discussed the advantages of in game marketing as well as the strategies.
According to the clip, strategies in marketing a game to its success includes using social media platforms
in promoting, publishing articles that would catch up the interests of readers and gamers, and creating a
landing page that would highlight what the game is all about. Those mentioned above are only few
examples of how to strategize in marketing a game. Further in the video, the speaker mentioned about
having a “life-like graphics and sound” which really attracts many people who are into games. Another,
targeting the audience by means of segmentation, targeting, and positioning could have a huge impact
in making a game successful in the market. More so, creating a hook-up trailer clip can captivate many
people’s interest and curiosity so they will install the game. Having your game tested or even promoted
by influencers also matters a lot, because these people are being looked up by their followers getting
their approval in the game would also allure many people. There’s also a feature called “game review”
where people can read what’s good and what’s not about the game which in turn adds up to the
interest of a person. There’s really numerous strategies on how to promote your game, but according to
the video, strategies won’t matter much if the results were not measured. With regards to the
advantage of in game marketing, as it has been stated in the video, there’s really an increasing benefits
in the industry. Contrary to traditional belief that nothing can be gained in gaming, there’s actually a lot
of money in gaming. With the right implementation of strategies in marketing, a game could achieve its
success.

Laboratory Exercise: Player Motivation

In the broad trend in gaming world and gamers, I am aware that there are diverse motivation in playing.
This activity helped me to understand some of it by interviewing my family relatives and close friends.
According to my sister, Alex, her motivation in playing games is the “sense of community it brings.”
Having the opportunity to be connected to people from different parts of the world and get to play with
them, it really builds a community. Another motivation for Alex, she said that “it enables me to test my
skills from different parts of the world, and in the process, providing me with a sense of achievement.”
By this, Alex probably relates to the competitiveness of playing a game. When you get to use your skills
against other gamers and you won or level up, it really does give a sense of achievement. Additionally,
Alex stated that playing games benefit her, “allows me to de-stress from the other aspects of life.” In
another interview, by my cousin Justine, what motivates him in playing is “because my idols and pro
players that give life to the games. They are the main influencers that help other gamers to play more
and be like them.” In another answer that I got from my uncle, the motivation in playing comes from
“the challenge in playing with different people and seeing who’s the better player.” Meanwhile, some of
my friends said that playing a game motivates them in a way that it helps them improve their game
strategies while having fun, it also act as an escape from reality and boredom.

With regards to the question “Why is it important for the game developers to understand the game
market?” I also got different answers. For Alex, “It's essential for game devs to understand the game
market because by doing so they will be in touch with what the gaming community is looking for. Any
game will fail if its features are not on par with the desires or standards of the people of the gaming
community.” Which is a very good point, if the game developers have the proper understanding of their
game market, they are bound to be more successful. Adding to that, “Game developers need to
understand the game market because every year more games are coming out which is better than their
previous games. So must seek for a plan for their game to compete with the new games to be released
in the near future” as answered by Justine. Which is also agreeing with uncle EJ’s answer which is “to
ensure that you can create a game that won’t just copy other games. To know what’s trending and
what’s the top genre, to determine what the top selling game studios do that other developers don’t.”
There is also a great importance in knowing the game market’s preferences in it comes to gaming.
Mostly, gamers like those games that has an exceptional graphics and sounds without having a burden
in their storage. Games with a heavy storage are prone to being uninstalled later on. The game
developers aim to be successful in their downloads and their game to be played on long term. If they
doesn’t consider the game market, it would be difficult for them to be successful.

To conclude, this interviewing activity helped me in grasping the different motivations of people in
playing games. Some like it for the entertainment it brings, some for the achievement, and some for the
influencers they follow. Furthermore, understanding the game market is an advantage for the game
developers and it is important for the game’s success.
