HOW TO USE THIS COMPETENCY BASED LEARNING MATERIALS

Welcome to the module in Supervising Work-based Learning. This


module contains training materials and activities for you to complete.

The unit of competency “Supervising Work-based Learning” contains


knowledge, skills and attitudes required for TRAINERS METHODOLOGY (™)
1.

You are required to go through a series of learning activities in order


to complete each learning outcome of the module. In each learning outcome
are Information Sheets, Self-Checks, Task Sheets and Job Sheets. Follow
these activities on your own. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask
your facilitator for assistance.

The goal of this course is the development of practical skills in


supervising work-based training. Tools in planning, monitoring and
evaluation of work-based training shall be prepared during the workshop to
support in the implementation of the training program.

This module is prepared to help you achieve the required competency,


in “Supervising Work-based Learning”.

This will be the source of information for you to acquire knowledge


and skills in this particular competency independently and at your own
pace, within minimum supervision or help form your facilitator.

Remember to:

● Work through all the information and complete the activities in each
section.
● Read Information Sheets and complete the self-check. Answer Keys
are included in this package to allow immediate feedback. Answering
the self-checks will help you acquire the knowledge content of this
competency.
● Perform the Task Sheets and Job Sheets until you are confident that
your output conforms with the Performance Criteria Checklist that
follows the sheets.
● Submit outputs of the Task Sheets and Job Sheets to your facilitator
for evaluation and recording in the Accomplishment Chart. Outputs
shall serve as your portfolio during the Institutional Competency
Evaluation.
A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to you after passing the
evaluation. You must pass the Institutional Competency Evaluation for this
competency before moving to another competency.

Work-Based Training

Learning Objective:

After reading this, you must be able to:

1. Define and explain Work-Based Training; and

2. Enumerate the objectives of work-based training.

Work-Based Training

- is one of the best components of Competency-Based Training. It is a


training approach that aims towards the acquisition of competencies that is
directly related to that actual industry workplace.

- it is also training delivery mode are which trainees are exposed in


the workplace (refers to industry and school-based activities).

Types of Work-Based Training

Job Shadowing

It is a school-supervised career exploration activity wherein trainees


visit worksites and “shadow” employees as they perform their jobs. Job
shadows emphasize observing the workplace, not participating as a
productive worker.

Internship

Internship helps trainees move from school to the workplace by


offering “hands-on” learning, in real work settings, overly relatively a long of
period of time. They are school-supervised and may be paid or unpaid in
order to gain work experience or satisfy requirements for a qualification.

Apprenticeship Program

It is a training and employment program involving a contract between


an apprentice and an employer on an approved apprenticeable occupation.
The period covers a minimum of four months and a maximum of six
months.

Learnership Program

It is a practical training on-the-job for approved learnable


occupations, for a period not exceeding three months.

Dual Training System

It is an instructional mode of delivery for technology-based education


and training in which learning takes place alternately in two venues: the
school or the training center and the company.

School-Based Enterprise

Typically involves trainees in the management of the business that


produces or sell goods and services as part of a school program.

Objectives of Work-Based Training

 To expand and enhance the trainees’ learning through planned career


experiences in actual work setting.

 To help the trainees make the transition from to school to work and
career.

 To teach the environent of work.

 To increase the trainees’ awareness and appreciation of the relevance of


basic, common and core competencies as they apply to their
qualification/ occupational choice.

 To provide the trainees with opportunities for potential career placement


in their occupational choice.

 To project a positive image for trainees through involvement in business


and industry.
