Nanjing Museum Visit Report

Nanjing Museum is extraordinary place to explore and learn. It’s amusing and
breathtaking. The museum could serve as the best study ground the long and cultured
history of China. The main building was designed by Liang Sicheng in the 1930s
combining Chinese and Western architectural styles. The front section is structure of
traditional style and features a golden tiled roof. In the back is a Western-style flat-roof
structure. Added in the 1990s to the west of the main building is an art hall which
references Chinese architecture of the first half of the 20th century. The museum was set
up as the National Central Museum in 1933.

As I walk into the museum onto the first level, there are many different halls
surrounding. The Digital Gallery, located on the first lower ground floor at the
intersection of the History Gallery and Special Exhibition Gallery. The digital gallery
comprises a physical gallery and displays the ancient Chinese civilization of Jiangsu
Province. The physical gallery is a
flexible split-level-space. It
presents digital representations of
cultural relics in their historical
context, immersing visitors in the
feeling of the journey from past to
present. The physical gallery also
provides work for the technology of
real-time image matting and
motion capture, using hardware
and space to construct multiple
cutting-edge means of display,
such as “digital image and real
objects overlap” and “split-level
layout screens”.

In the meantime, the online virtual gallery uses image recognition technology to
recreate the physical gallery. It not only extends the contents of the physical gallery, but
also adds new details and updates, making it an “everlasting updated museum”.

The museum has twelve exhibition halls, which is not possible to me to visit the whole
museum within a day. The exhibition hall are Qin Garden, Earthen Ware Hall, Treasure
Hall, Folk Art Hall, Bronze Ware Hall, Ming and Qing Porcelain Hall, Wu Weishan
Sculpture Hall, Ancient Paintings Hall, Modern Art Hall, Jiangnan Silk Product Hall,
Jade Hall, Lacquer Hall.

To my left there is the gallery of intangible cultural heritage. This section of the museum
demonstrates the traditions, culture of the peoples that transferred from generation to
generation. The gallery also includes different beautiful, decorative jewelries. The
Intangible Cultural Heritage
Programs Exhibition Hall has eight
craftsmanship show rooms, were
some entertainers are having live
performance of intangible fine arts
and craftsmanship programs all
day long and I was entertained
with traditional dance presented by
the actors on the stage, which was
so enchanting. The galleries also
clearly displays the materials,
objects that were used in the sites
related. In general the intangible
cultural heritage exhibition hall seemed to promote and develop the superior traditional
Chinese culture which I learned and enjoyed most during my visit.

The most interesting part of this museum was a vast collection of sculpture, the most
precious of which are selected in the sculpture exhibition. They are selected from
treasures of all ages that represents the civilization and wisdom of the Orient. Here, you

will able to see sculptures from Yin Xu of Henan, Pengshan Han Tomb of Sichuan, the
site of Tang Dynasty in Gansu, and works from other archeological excavations.

It was also interesting to see the from magnificent tomb

stone carvings to delicate and exquisite ornaments and
decorations, these pieces of work cover different aspects of
ancient sculpture, each with their temporal and regional
features. In this show room I was enjoyed with the test of
ancient life and the gracious beauty of ancient art through
the splendid techniques of crafters.

Other notable exhibits were the Buddha hall.  Buddha halls where established both in
imperial palaces and imperial gardens. Implements used for Buddhist offerings, such as
pagoda-shaped stands with niches for Buddha statuettes, Buddha pavilions, Buddha
statuettes, the Seven Treasures found in
these Buddha halls. The halls are seems to
be rich in collection of Buddha statuettes.
These statuettes are made of a variety of
materials including earth, rocks, wood,
gold-paint and copper, among which the
golden paint and copper statuettes are
exceptionally well designed with accurate
proportion and exquisite craftsmanship.
These statuettes are among the most
interesting collection indeed it is important
artistic treasures. They display a supreme
elegance of the royal style, which is
embedded with rich historical, religious,
national and artistic values.

I also found that the outstanding painter and art educator of China in twentieth Century
and the exhibit on Su Tianic and the images of oil paintings with Chinese culture spirit
and artistic charm of the East were particularly interesting.  He has made a special
contribution to the developing of Chinese oil painting, especially to the nationalization
of oil painting

Conclussion

In conclusion, Nanjing Museum was the most enchanting and favorite of all that I have
been to, and I had also experienced the pleasure of learning and artistic appreciation. Moreover,
it is my pleasure to suggest this museum to anyone.  It holds valuable information of the
ancient civilization to the modern century of P.R. of China.  It also manifests the cultural
resources and religious, national and artistic values and history of P.R. China. I think
that everyone could learn something valuable from this museum and the exhibits that
are housed within in it.
