The giant panda, with its distinctive black and white markings, is one of the world’s most famous and easily
recognised animals. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most endangered. The giant panda is native to the
bamboo forests of central and south-western China, and its diet is composed nearly exclusively of bamboo.
It is a large, gentle animal, and even in the wild it has almost no predators. However, it is facing near-
extinction because the size of its natural habitat has decreased greatly. This is because huge sections of
