Module 7: Objective/Balanced Review or Critique of a Work

of Art, an Event, or a Program

What’s More: Activity 2

One of the Filipino cultures that we continuously preserved and practiced is “Bayanihan”. It is an
expression of spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective. Directions: Below is the
painting of “Bayanihan”; take a look at this, study, analyze, and write a balanced/objective review of the
painting considering the elements discussed. Write your review in paragraph form in your notebook.

The image depicted captures the spirit of Bayanihan in its early stages. I have seen in
this image that they help each other to lift and move that kubo and it’s called Bayanihan.
The artwork has the proper combination of color, motion, size, context, and quantity of
pieces to give the viewer a sense of what an actual act of Bayanihan in a painting looks
like. My eyes saw that they were working together to lift that hut because it was part of
their culture or their habits. I like how the artist even included a dog in the artwork. Our
eagerness to aid our fellow Filipinos in times of need is a quality that runs through our
veins as Filipinos. The act of relocating the bahay-kubo of one ka-nayon to another area
with the aid of his neighbors became known as bayanihan. The image nearly gives us a
clear picture of what it would have looked like in the beginning. I'd like to make about
the painting is that the perspective view was not appropriately located, which is why it
appears that the painting is not properly dimensioned when you look at it. But in overall,
I really appreciate and admire how the artist used a picture of them to portray the
concept of Bayanihan.
