D is the most formal. This is because para D also has in-text citation, in which the readers might
be scientific readers that require formal citations. It also cites the sources and the number to
prove that there is evidence for the information, it is not just pure theory. Para B is also formal,
the readers might be linguistic experts because it has methods proving about the relationships
of focal point in literary search, but there has been no in-text citation. The following is para C,
and the least formal is A since it resembles speaking English.
Pronouns: develop its own way, you would say, if you agree
Informal Vocab: isn’t, wrong, people from Korea, lots of other things
Active verbs: isn’t, if you agree, develops its own way.
Point of view: Experts who disagree, you would say, if you agree.
Writing literature review requires the critical view of relevant research. Even though it is widely
supported that a review is a summary, however, I am strongly opposed. Despite the vitality of a
summary, a meticulous consideration of the work should also be regarded to determine the
cohesion and the relevance to other research because a complete summary of a whole paper is
insurmountable.
