The Hook:

And So it Begins, Again

The moon waxing near to full, hangs languid in the autumn sky, moonlight washing
the billowing clouds below in eerie shades of silver and gray. Somewhere in the
distance an old church bell strike intones 11pm, the evening winds whip the detritus
of the city in haphazard patters around the narrow streets of the old canning district.

In the gloomily shadows cast by a large neglected and unused city mailbox and rusting
street sign, corner of Reilly and Harris, something is moving, ever so slightly, a shifting
of shadow on shadow. A glint of silver flashes in the moonlight.

Across the street and up three stories, the top floor of a renovated clay brick cannery
building turned trendy condo units, light blazes from the large leaded glass floor to
ceiling windows. A figure is pacing within.

Inside the large flat, decorated with extravagance and style, a lovely woman dressed
workout gear, a cotton towel around her neck, is pacing the living area amidst stacks
of paintings, sculptures and antique artifacts.

She is cradling a sleek cellphone between her ear and shoulder as she traces a
delicate finger across the golden surface of a statuary partially obscured from view
but obviously in the shape of some bird of prey, she speaks into the phone annoyed
"no no, it's been authenticated, genuine, 16 million flat... , , absolutely not,, ,, yes
yes... ok.. Tomorrow evening... , , , ,Franklin,, Don't Disappoint me!"

Hanging up a wicked smile touches the corner of her lips, she drops the phone onto
the sofa, and walks into the kitchen. She opens the massive stainless refrigerator and
draws out a bottle of wine a subtle 62 Bordeaux and places it on the counter. She
spins lighting on her heals and retrieves a crystal drinking goblet from the class ware
capelet. Pauses for a moment and looks about on the counter top, then humming to
herself walks to the drawer in front of the window, slides it open and reaches in for
her corkscrew, and is suddenly struck violently in the hand and arm by a large black
viper eyes glistening with malice, fangs dripping with blood, one, two three as its
coils slither from the cutlery drawer.

She staggers back clutching her wrist in shock and terror, turns for the living room,
makes two strides toward the sofa, falls to her knees, crawls, and then slumps to the
floor. A moment later we see her hand reach over the arm of the sofa, then fall back
with a soft thud to the floor.

We hear her raged breathing slow and stop.

We see the asp, slither across the room and vanish into the shadows.

Keeper Notes:

In the hook, Calpurnia is here retrieving one of Caesar's treasured

golden legionary eagles, the victim is, or rather was, Professor Tatiana
Gray, and art thief and cat burglar and sometimes lecturer at the local
community college. She acquired the eagle and some additional
roman artifacts when she and a collogue broke into and robbed Italian
villa eleven months ago. Little did she know, said villa belonged to
Calpurnia, and was one of her many rarely visited cashes of treasure.

Misdirection:

It will become clear fairly quickly that the team is dealing with a greater
mummy. Initial clues may, and probably will, lead the team to the
Central Museum of Antiquities, where the current Antoni and Cleopatra
exhibit has recently opened.

However Cleopatra is not our mummy as the team may be lead to

believe, in fact, Cleopatra placed a curse on Caesar's third wife
Calpurnia shortly before he fell victim to assassination. It is important
to misdirect the hunters at first into believing that Cleopatra is the
mummy, because knowing the "True Name" of the mummy and
position of Cleopatra's Mirror are it's primary weaknesses. The miss
direction will lead the team to the Mirror, but make it's usage more
challenging.

Calpurnia, upon her death became an cursed undead creature. In

ancient Rome in the years following her "resurrection" she brought
much historically unreported calamity on the Julio-Claudian family,
before being hunted relentlessly by Augustus, until eventually the
Pretorian guard under the emperor Tiberius subdued and being unable
to destroy her, instead imprisoned her for what they thought was
eternity.

She was however released from her prison accidentally in 234 CE by

workers in the employ of Emperor Severus Alexander. Her Wrath and
its aftermath, have become known today as "The Crisis of the Third
Century". Since that time down through the centuries she has become
very rich and even more powerful. Time however dose not heal all
wounds as she still bears a nearly all-consuming hatred for her
husband's ex-lover. She has come to see the curse as a mighty gift, she
has become the all too willing disciple and consort of the Dark Goddess
Ammit, regardless she will never let go of her hatred for Cleopatra, and
all women who seduce away the husbands of others.

The Central Museum of Antiquity, dose however undenounced to

Calpurnia hold a treasure, Cleopatra's looking glass, this magic device
has many powers, but one of which is, if Calpurnia is to gaze upon her
reflection while hearing her "True Name", she will immediately be
reverted to her Undead form and lose all protective enchantments, be
infuriated and grief struck, and furthermore be vulnerable to attack
until an appropriate sacrifice to Ammit can be made to restore her
visage and protective magics.

Cleopatra's Curse
Calpurnia was placed under a blood curse by her husband's lover
Cleopatra in late 43BCE in retaliation for the humiliation that she the
Queen of Egypt felt she had suffered at Calpurnia's hands during a visit
to Rome, in particular for the way she was treated at a party that was
supposedly healed in her honor at Caesar's villa. As a result of the
curse everything beloved of Calpurnia turns to dust. Further once
Calpurnia died some years later she rose again as a mummy, and
brought death, disease and famine to those she was close to in life.

Over the centuries Calpurnia has mastered the various arts of sorcery
from east and west and is now the willing consort of Ammit. She has
traveled the globe and meddled in mortal affairs. In the past 800 years
she has been active in tracking down and re-acquiring her husband's
lost treasures, handed over dutifully to the traitorous Markus Antonius
upon Cease's death. She has now gathered enough of his treasures to
fetch is soul back from the underworld, and plans to resurrect him as
her undead mate in service of Ammit.

Calpurnia is able to maintain a strikingly beautiful visage of her youth

and beauty in its flower, this form not only shields her from scorn and
fear of others, greatly enhances her ability to magically bewitch those
who are attracted to her form, and simply walk about in the light of
day.

Usage of her great mummy powers degrades the form, but it can be re-
established with the appropriate sacrifices to Ammit.

Calpurnia has mastered and frequently employees very powerful

entropy curse rituals taught to her by Ammit, and each usage darkens
her soul and places her further under the control of the Dark Goddess
she serves.
Calpurnia today
Shortly after the WWII, Calpurnia established a Private Girls School The
Caesoninus Academy in the city of Dion Michigan, Where she and her
most loyal minions and slaves train wealthy young women in the classic
arts of math, rhetoric, politics, arts and other refined social skills.

Most if not all of these young ladies go on to marry well or achieve

great things in their own right. However every few years a few of these
girls run away and are never seen again. Calpernia's current guise is as
Miss Bianchi owner and head mistress of Caesoninus Academy, an
Italian woman in her early 30s with striking beauty, impeccable style,
and sharp intellect. She is well known in the well-to-do circles, and a
patron of the arts.

The heart of the Academy is a walled garden that hides and protects
Calpurnia Greco-Roman temple and sanctuary.
