Title:

Project: 18.5202
RTP Position: CO2 Plant
Road Tanker pump Filling CO2 tank Number: SOP_U-1400
Date: 14-July-2021
Operation

Goal: The road tanker pump is designed to transfer liquid CO2 towards a road tanker.

The road tanker pump is controlled from a control cabinet near the pump and needs to have a
release from the storage tank (Not empty).

The use of the road tanker pump other for liquids or other pressures than designed is not
allowed.

Preconditions.

 CO2 Pump - Be sure no dry ice comes in the CO2 Pump.

 CO2 Pump minimum operation temperature is -40°C. Dry ice has a temperature from -78.5°C.

Warning
Large concentrations of CO2 can cause asphyxia and even death.

Warning Liquid CO2 is very cold and causes burns. Use gloves which protect against
cold liquids when draining systems or e.g. handling liquid leakages.

MAKE SURE: All Safety Standards have to be followed during procedures!

Step Description Image

1. Safety: PPE required.

2. Safety: PPE required being

available in the area.

3. Connect the correct hoses to the road tanker. (Liquid to liquid and gas to gas balance)
4. Check if the hand valves Liquid and gas balance at the CO2 tank are open.

5. Pressurize and equalize the Gas balance hose connected to the gas side of the road tanker by
opening slowly the gas balance valve (1) to the CO2 Tanker and check for leakages.
6. Purge the gasbalance hose to evacuate the air by slowly opening purge valve (5) on the road
tanker truck. After purging for 30 sec close the valve (5).
7. Slowly open the gas balance valve (11) of the road tanker (on the truck) and allow the systems
(CO2 tank and truck) to equalize in pressure. Open the valve completely when the pressures are
equalized. Check if the needle Valve 3 is always slightly open (1 or 2 turns)
8. Check the CO2 pressure at the Manometers 7,8 and at the road tanker, these should be higher
than 10 Bar.
9. Open valve (2) to pressurize the Liquid hose and check for leaks, this hose also has to be drained
so all air is our this can be done at valve (6) at the road tanker truck after purging for 30 sec the
valve has to be closed.
10. The complete system is now at pressure and the pump can be filled with liquid CO2.
11. Open the CO2 liquid valve (12) at the road tanker, at the CO2 pump slowly open drain valve (9)
and close it when CO2 Liquid is coming out of the valve (white stream of dry ice) this also can be
done with drain valve 10 and 13.
12. Open valve (4), this is done to be sure the Pump has CO2 liquid inside and the CO2 Liquid Pipes
are filled with Liquid CO2.
13. The CO2 pump is now ready to operate and fill the CO2 tank, the Maintenance switch can be
turned on.

Note! When the road tanker pump is meant to be stand alone (So not connected
to a central control) it will not stop automatically. Therefore during the
operation of the road tanker pump this action must be attended by an
operator, checking the levels of road tanker and storage tank and
switching off the pump when levels are low or when vessels are full.

14. Select 1=Filling this means filling the CO2 tank and emptying the Road tanker on the RTP panel.
- When selected filling and the CO2 Tank is full, the CO2 road tanker pump will not get the release
signal from the control and stop.
- When selected emptying and the CO2 Tank is empty, the CO2 road tanker pump will not get the
release signal from the control and stop.
- When the Road tanker is maximum filled the operator needs to put the switch on 0=off
- Some Road tanker pumps can also fill a CO2 tank that’s why some have 3 positions.

15. The Pump will start pumping CO2 liquid to the CO2tank, check if all is running smoothly and the
Liquid hose gets cold (+/- -24C this depends on the CO2 pressure).

16. Remain at the Pump till the pumping is complete switch off the CO2 pump Switch to 0 and the
Maintenance switch also put to off.
17. Close valve 1, 4, 11 and 12 and Drain the CO2 Liquid, by slowly opening drain valves 9 and 10
till only CO2 gas is coming out of these valves, drain also CO2 liquid at the Road tanker valve 6.
18. When all CO2 Liquid is drained (No white stream is coming out of the valves) close valve 2 and
drain the Gas pressure out of the Hoses by opening valve 5 and 6 these can be left open.
19. Now the Gas balance and CO2 liquid hoses can be removed.

Note: the Motor work switch can be used to disable unauthorized operation with a padlock.
