by Link. By cooking food items, Link can create various food
dishes including Elixirs similar to potions in previous games
except these will not heal you instead they provide a Stat buff
in more cases. The other main option is to cook Meals that
increase Stats or resistance to Elemental Damage, but best of

How To Cook Food and Elixirs

Before you can use your Ingredients to Cook a Meal, Link will
need to approach a Metal Bowl. In some cases, you will need
to light a fire underneath it. Some food recipes require an open
flame campfire to cook certain ingredients, but for the most
part, a majority of your Zelda Breath of the Wild Crafting
Recipes will be cooked in a Metal Bowl.

While Near an Open Flame or Lit Metal Bowl Press + to

enter your inventory Screen.

You can place up 5 Ingredients, once you have selected

however many you plan to use, Exit you Inventory Screen and
press A to cook.

Elixirs

Zelda Breath of the Wild Elixir Recipes are made the same
way you make Food using a Metal Bowl. You will need two
type of Ingredients to make Elixirs in Zelda Breath of the
Wild.

1. Critters: Frogs, Fireflies and Lizards.

2. Monster Parts: Horns, Talon, Teeth, Guts and
Fangs

When you kill Monsters they will Drop Items like Fangs
and Horns, which you can then use to make Elixirs with
helpful Status Buffs.

Food Dishes

Food Dishes are cooked meals that will recover Link’s

Heart Containers (HP) and can sometimes Provide you
with Status Buffs, like Resistance to Cold.

Ingredients: Herbs, Meats, Mushrooms, Critters,

Fish, and a lot more other Ingredients.

Cooked Food In Zelda Breath of the Wild is best known for

the amount of Hearts it can heal and will be your
main supply for strong healing Items.

How Does Cooking Work In

Zelda Breath of the Wild?
Cooking Food in Zelda BotW is how Link will acquire the
majority of Healing Items and Elixirs in the game. Since
specifically Cooked food heals a lot more Hearts, then
uncooked food. You will find yourself cooking and discovering
new recipes as your progress through the story line and find
Rare Ingredients for your dishes.

When you use an ingredient that contains a buff, it will have a

prefix; Indicator to help you understand its effects on Link and
Crafting Recipes using the ingredient.

INGREDIENT BUFFS HOW IT AFFECTS LINK & RECIPES

Chilly Resistance To Heat

Energizing Restores Stamina

Enduring Extra Stamina

Electro Resistance To Shock

Fireproof Flame Guard

Hasty Increase Movement Speed

Hearty Restores Full Health

Mighty Buffs Attack

Sneaky Buffs Stealth

Spicy Resistance To Cold

Tough Buffs Defense

You can’t combine these separate buffs, so no meal will be

Hasty and Tough. But you can combine multiple of the same
ingredient to stack the buff and make it last longer, for,
example using two chillies instead of one in a cooking recipe
for a Spicy Meal will make your Resistance To Cold buff last
for a longer duration.

Note: These Ingredients listed below will still be required to be

cooked in the proper dish to receive the Bonus Duration
Time. The more you use of these Specific Ingredients in a
single recipe craft the longer the duration will last by X amount
of seconds. For, Example when crafting the Chilled Steam
Fish recipe, if you use 3 Hyrule Bass instead of 1 in the
recipe your buff duration will get an extra 30 + 30 to its original
3:30 duration for a Total of 4:30.

On top of these buffs, during the process of cooking food in

Zelda breath of the wild you may also hear a special sound.
When this happens you will receive an extra bonus buff at
random for the crafted food or elixir. These buffs can be one of
the following:

Buff Increase By 5 Minutes

Buff Strength Increased By +1
Stamina Increases
Extra Yellow Heart
Three Extra Hearts

You can actually guarantee these bonuses by using particular

Ingredients or cooking during a certain time.

Cooking during a Blood Moon, when the moon is red and

enemies respawn, will give you a random bonus. As will using
a star fragment or dragon body part in your recipe.
