A. Summarize the key arguments in Craig's opening statements.

Craig points out that by the very existence of things, God must exist, as everything has
an explanation. The existence of the universe is explained by an “external, transcendent, and
personal cause.” He also uses a deductive argument in the form of Modus Ponens to point out
that everything that comes into existence has a cause, the universe came into existence, and
therefore has a cause. The final statement I would like to point out is the fine tuning of the
universe. From Craig’s deductions, it must be due to design and not from physical necessity or
chance.

B. Summarize the key arguments in Dacey's opening statements.

In his opening, Dacey lists a series of points that can prove atheism, including the
seclusion of “God,” evolution, “pointless suffering,” and the existence and usefulness of science.
He also points out how illogical it is for a metaphysical being to create something physical.

C. What do you believe is the strongest point in Craig's first rebuttal? What do you
believe is the strongest point in Dacey's first rebuttal?

Craig’s strongest point is that efficiency is not necessary for “God,” therefore evolution
does not discredit the idea of a God. Dacey’s strongest point is that cosmic fine-tuning is still a
scientific curiosity and therefore is not a strong enough source to prove an idea of a
metaphysical being.

D. In summary: who do you think had the best arguments and why is that the case?

Although I do not believe in God, Craig had the best arguments. His points debunked
many theories about God and how evolution disproves his existence. Dacey also made a
couple good points proving that the growth of scientific knowledge disproves God, however
Craig used that to his advantage to prove that God is still at work. One of Craig’s best points
was the comparison of God and the human mind. Neither are physical, but both are real.
