A Guide to God’s Existence
(Title of the Poem)

I strongly believe in the existence of God,

He is with me through good times and bad.
Each day, I yearn to know Him more deeply,
Learning the arguments on His existence delights me.

Cosmological arguments are a posteriori,

Knowledge is obtained through experience hereby.
Cosmological arguments are also inductive,
Where observation is needed for it to be conclusive.

St. Thomas Aquinas, a theologian and philosopher,

Wrote five proofs for God’s existence in order.
His proofs rely on what we can see around us,
He wrote these in ‘Summa Theologica’, to discuss.

The first one is The Argument from Motion,

Whatever is in motion now was at rest, is the notion.
It remains at rest until moved by something else or a bod,
Hence, there is a First Mover who is God.

The Argument from Efficient Cause which states,

Everything in the world has its maker as it indicates.
That maker has its maker, like a group that’s descendent,
Thus, God, the First Maker, must have been present.

The third is The Argument from Contingency and Necessary Being,

Which argues that nothing comes from nothing.
Since there is something now-the world and everything,
There must be a necessary being we call God, is what it’s arguing.

In The Argument from Gradation or from Degrees of Perfection,

The existence of an ultimate standard of perfection is its assumption.
Therefore, perfection must have a pinnacle,
This pinnacle is what we call God and it’s unequivocal.

The Argument from Design is the last in order,

That argues if there is design, there must be a designer.
Thus, an intelligent being directs everything towards a purpose,
This is what everyone understands to be God in sureness.
St. Anselm of Canterbury, a Benedictine monk and theologian,
Proposed the first ontological argument in the Western Christian.
He defined God as a being than which no greater can be conceived,
God, the greatest possible being must exist in reality, as he believed.

Learning these things helped me strengthen my faith in Him,

And appreciate how God’s love for us is filled to the brim.
I now have a deeper knowledge of His existence,
Which helps me live a life filled with purpose and persistence.

Instructions:
Make a digital collage on how you are going to justify the existence of God.
Your collage may consists of 5 or more pictures/ images that illustrate the
existence of God. Do not forget to write also a brief explanation of your
collage.

In my collage, I used pictures that illustrate the five proofs of God's existence by St. Thomas Aquinas.
Of course, I also included a picture of St. Thomas Aquinas to give credit to the author of these important
arguments that support God’s existence. The picture in the center reflects The Argument from
Contingency and Necessary Being since it shows that there is a Necessary Being whom we call God whose
existence is not contingent on any other being or beings. The picture on its left shows The Argument from
Motion as God is the First Mover of things while the picture on its right reflects The Argument from
Design because it shows that God is the designer of all things and the intelligent being which directs
everything towards a purpose. In the bottom section, the picture with a finger tapping a domino piece
shows The Argument from Efficient Cause. The finger symbolizes God and that He is the First Maker, that
was not itself made, of everything in the world. The image next to it displays The Argument from
Gradation or from Degrees of Perfection conveying the message that perfect goodness exists, hence it has
a source andAttachment

claim that God exists through their personal beliefs, observations, or scientific studies. The shape of the
collage is a heart to symbolize that aside from God’s mere existence, love also exists because God exists.
Questions Answers
1. I learned that there are numerous rational arguments on the
existence of God such as the cosmological argument, five proofs of
God’s existence by St. Thomas Aquinas like “The Argument from
1. What did you learn today? Motion”, “ The Argument from Efficient Cause”, “The Argument
from Contingency and Necessary Being”, “ The Argument from
Gradation or from Degrees of Perfection”, and “ The Argument
from Design”; and ontological argument proposed by St. Anselm
of Canterbury.
2. Cosmological arguments are a posteriori which means that
knowledge is obtained through experiences. It is also inductive
which entails the process of using examples and observation to
reach a conclusion.
3. The Argument from Motion argues that things are in motion, hence
there is a first mover and the first mover is what we call God.
4. The Argument from Efficient Cause argues that things are caused
and must have a beginning, hence there is a first cause. God, the
First Cause, therefore exists.
5. The Argument from Contingency and Necessary Being states that
things exist, hence there is a creator. To account for all existence,
there must be a Necessary Being, God.
6. The Argument from Gradation or from Degrees of Perfection
Perfect states that goodness exists, hence it has a source that is the
most perfect being we call God.
7. The Argument from Design argues that things are designed, hence
they serve a purpose. It argues that the behavior of things in the
world implies a Grand Designer or architect, God.
8. St. Anselm of Canterbury proposed the first ontological argument
in which he defined God as "a being than which no greater can be
conceived, and which exists”, and argued that this being must exist
in the mind, even in the mind of the person who denies the
existence of God. Therefore, this greatest possible being must exist
in reality.
The knowledge of the rational arguments on the existence of God will
help us to:
2. So What? o have a sufficient understanding of the limits of human
(Relevancy, importance, usefulness)" reasoning concerning God’s existence
o properly explain through reason the existence of God and its
implication to human behavior to ourselves and others
o defend God’s existence to the non-believers if they oppose our
beliefs strongly and ask us to prove His existence
o reflect the omnipotence of God in creating humans as rational
creatures
o appreciate and honor God’s love in His initiative to reveal
Himself to humans in various ways
o strengthen our faith in God since we have a deeper knowledge
and understanding of His existence
o incorporate the different rational arguments on the existence of
God when we are given the opportunity to introduce God to
others especially to newly converted Christians or our future
children

3. Now What? Jesus. It is also linked to several theological disciplines. Soteriology,
(How does this fit into what we are or the study of the doctrine of salvation, requires an understanding of
learning? Does it affect our Jesus’ nature. The same is true for subjects such as ecclesiology, or the
thinking? Can we predict where we study of the Christian Church, and Trinitarian theology, or the study of

learning about the different rational arguments on God’s existence will
surely concretize our knowledge about God.

Yes, the learnings that we have gained from the lesson will surely
affect our thinking as we develop a deeper knowledge and
understanding of God's existence and its implication to human
behavior. If we have any preconceived notions of God’s existence, this
lesson will help us have a better and clearer knowledge of His
existence. Also, Our thinking will be affected positively since we will
be able to reflect the omnipotence of God in creating humans as
rational creatures, honor and appreciate God’s love in His initiative to
reveal Himself to humans in many forms, and strengthen our faith in
God.

I think that after learning the many rational arguments on God’s

existence, the next lesson will be about God’s revelation to humans.
We will dig deeper into the different ways God has revealed His
existence to the people since it is related to the lesson on Gods’
existence. Similar to this topic, we will further appreciate God’s love in
His initiative to reveal Himself to humans in various ways. I predict
that the upcoming lessons will be interesting, and it will surely be
applicable in real life. The next lessons will fill us with new
information about God’s revelation which will affect our thinking
positively. Moreover, the upcoming lessons will strengthen our faith in
God.
