Evaluate

1) HOW FAR HAVE WE GONE? So, what lessons did you learn from the discussion on
the different methods of teaching grammar?
I have learned the differences among these methods of teaching grammar.
o Inductive teaching is giving patterns or examples, to measure how observant
the learners are, the giving them opportunity to practice with their own
concepts.
o Deductive teaching is giving instruction on a general rule and letting students
use these general rules in a new specific language.
o Interactive method allows teachers to tailor their lessons to the different
learning styles of students with the use of games like word puzzle and/or fun
online quizzes.
o Functional-notional approach, when designing a lesson, teachers often
choose a real - world situation as their “notion” and choose corresponding
functions to teach to prepare students to communicate in that situation in the
lesson. For example, a lesson might be about how to buy something at a shop,
in which case its notion is shopping and one of its functions might be asking
prices,
o Situational contexts, Fromkin, Rodman and Hyams (2011) said context can
be linguistic and situational. Linguistic context is about the information that
was formally written or spoken and situational context is the general
knowledge that a person has of the world.

o Using texts, stories, songs and rhymes, there are different ways of using
songs in the classroom. The level of the students, the interests and the age of
the learners, the grammar point to be studied and the song itself have
determinant role on the procedure. Apart from them, it mainly depends on the
creativity of the teacher.

Aside from these, I have also learned that as a future teacher we should be more open
in adapting different approaches in teaching, we should be more creative and aware of
what is new, in order to make our learners be more compelling.
2) As a future teacher, I need to know these different methods of teaching grammar
because……
In order to be an effective teacher, I should be fully aware of the different methods in
teaching which will later on help me assess the learning of my students. I have
learned and realize how useful it is to be knowledgeable about these different
methods of teaching, it gives us opportunities to execute our class and discussion in a
creative and interesting way.
Reflective learning
What I like the most about the lesson?
 I like how it was explained in the module on how these different methods of teaching is
use in the class, how it gives us the idea of the actual process to be done in the classroom.
What I need to improve in understanding the lesson?
 I believe, I need to improve my behavior towards reading and understanding the material,
I think I should be more realistic or be aware of how these methods should be executed
inside the classroom accordingly.
What I want to learn connected to the lesson?
 I want to learn how to keep learners interested in discussing grammar, because they have
tendency to be bored when talking about grammar and its rules.
