Introduction
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Zero Food Waste is the topic of this research which is in line with the
Sustainable Development Goals because it focuses on how to sustain
the environment at the IIUM campus.

According to studies, young individuals aged 18 to 34 waste more food


than other age groups. Within this age range, students are a critical
audience, and in order to help them reduce food waste, we need to learn
more about what foods they waste and why.
RESEARCH PROBLEM
The IIUM Community has been wasting an increasing number of leftovers
especially in a large event. While some students are experiencing financial
difficulties and they are unable to purchase food.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
● To evaluate food-wasting issues in the IIUM community especially
among students
● To identify the issues and follow up with the relevant solutions.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
● Reducing food waste can save more money
● Reducing food waste can reduce pollution
● The process of waste management saves energy and resources.

OPERATIONAL TERMS
Zero Food Waste project focused on evaluating students' behavior and belief
towards food waste management. Besides, measuring social structures in
IIUM’s community to show the effectiveness of this project.

Review
KEY CONSTRUCT
Not all food wasted is caused by humans. Other obvious reasons such as
dislike for the particularity of food are common among children and even
some adults

PROBLEM STUDY
● Food waste can only be minimized in this area, if in cooperation with
IIUM students and staff.
● The food waste management that prevent from environmental effects
PROBLEM SOLUTIONS
● Educate students to plan their meal properly
● Provide a food bank and fridge
● Providing compost bin to throw unfinished or leftover foods
● Cafeteria give discount for food that has almost expired

MEASUREMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY
Evaluate waste management actions Improving and thinking new

Environmental education in schools aims to enhance students'


knowledge of environmental conservation and educate them to avoid
food waste.
HYPOTHESIS

The food wasted problem had an abysmal chance of solving if IIUM’s students
did not realize that they were wasting their food.
