SOURCE ROCK ASSESSMENT
Both Nayil formation and baraka formation was deposited with some sort of
settings which has not enough biodiversity to get deposited as an organic matter in these
formations and with different temperature and pressure environments to convert this
organic matter into hydrocarbons. Hence the organic matter included at the time of
deposition has poor mg HC ratio per gram of rock but still the organic matter that was
preserved generate very good amount of TOC. It is because of may be the organic matter
depleted into petroleum probably generated from the terrestrial environment. And as
these environments had multicellular organism mostly plant life which probably
preserved in good quantity but generated fair number of HCs.

KEROGENE TYPE:
As discussed above it is now clear that both formations have terrestrial origin,
and they dose not got enough organic matter deposits as organic matter to generate
petroleum. That’s why they did not generated enough petroleum and are considered as
good source rock

T MAX:
As the TOC is not the only factor to generate petroleum. It is accompanied by
standard pressure and temperature conditions which help to convert this preserved
organic matter into petroleum. But unluckily these conditions were high which
overmature the rock and made the source rock to convert hydrocarbon into coal but not
on economic scale.

VITRINITE DATA (R0)
The presence of coal window is indicated by the maceral vitrinite whose values
lies between 0.5 – 1.3% which shows us that the coal generated in the source rock is of
good grade.
